It sucks, I really like the idea of online spaces controlled and maintained by the community that uses them. But the convenience of Facebook's one-stop-socializing has made it kind of a hard sell to get people to keep participating.

both bands are formative and classic for me too but honestly their entire catalogs in retrospect are so saturated with "i know what's best for you/why did you friendzone me/you'll regret it" proto-MRA creepiness that a lot of it's hard to enjoy now

I dunno, I kinda like that Dennis guy; he has a weird distinctive voice. Always thought the Pulley guy was a fine singer but kinda bland.

The thing is, cities on the west coast are so much more spread out than on the east coast that if you're driving on tour, you're going to have to play a bunch of small towns. I took it for granted when I lived on the east coast how easy it was to hit a different major city per day on tours. Here it's like Vancouver BC (if you all have passports), Seattle, Portland (thousands of miles) San Francisco, Los Angeles.

I say we keep the board up. Maybe we can start doing more informal "pix board" hang outs?

I'd be down to lay in some grass by the mountains near a stream or something for a day or two in the summer.

This shit has context and history, it doesn't exist in a vacuum. Either you don't understand this, in which case you aren't quite the philosopher-king you present yourself as, or you don't care, in which case you ARE being a dick. Trigger warnings aren't censorship, they're used on material that is being taught. If the material were being censored there wouldn't be warnings, the material would be, you know, censored. 98% of this "college students are demanding censorship" stuff is mostly just a new front in the ancient traditional "college campuses are lie-beral hotbeds" thing used to try and shut up Vietnam War dissent.  The other 2% is college kids sometimes being dopey, which isn't a big new existential threat, it's actually been around for awhile. "SJW" is just a new term for "Politically Correct" now that most people finally recognize "PC" as racist grandpa talk.

my first joke was about the seemingly scripted absurdity of replying to a comment about mansplaining with a wall of text attempting to take a stranger through a bunch of typo-ridden formal logic over a throwaway comment. It's the literal definition of mansplaining.

I don't think I've ever banned anyone In 7 years of being an admin here. I think the only time I've ever used my admin powers was to filter the term "lady love" to appear as "Broseph" for Brett.


Some variation of this argument has come up over and over here and I think all it boils down to is new posters not bothering to take the temperature of the room or look at the history of the board before unleashing. Nobody disagrees with you that logic is important, it's the context that makes your response absurd, at least to me.

Sorry, you're just not gonna find a lot of people in any society at any time on any planet who are going to respond favorably to being condescendingly dragged through the Socratic method over an offhand comment. That's not a snarky messageboard thing, it's just life.
