also my response to the blackface thing would be that as a white guy who's gotten to treat whatever I want as a joke with zero negative repercussions for my entire life, it's easy for me to make the call that it's clearly satire and punching up

but part of being a decent human is a willingness to honestly hear out people who disagree and at least be like "OK fair enough" instead of "NO, it is SATIRE, WHY do you want to CENSOR JOAKS"

if anyone cares, I feel like as is usually the case with weaker Mr. Show entries, the concepts are better than the execution. I liked the central idea in the "Heaven Is For Real" parody where the kid comes back with info about Heaven that nobody wants to hear, but I didn't really ever laugh out loud. The cornball "don't need nothin fancy" country song that evolves into the band demanding a litany of specifically fancy catering by the end is also funny on paper but I was mostly like "heh" when seeing it.

I definitely enjoyed it overall, but it's hard to determine how much of that enjoyment was based on already liking the people involved and naturally rooting for any Mr. Show project to be good

distasteful mansplainin aside new mr show happens to not be that funny. nothing bigger conceptually than any ol podcast has done already

There appears to be some problems with your logic.
I hope you allow me to help.
I get the impression you speak in absolutes, or at least in quoted statement, the syntax you use equates to one of either (A) the new bob & david show is not that funny objectively or (B) the new bob & david show is not that funny because I believe it that is fact...
Facts can be false. I'm sure you remember that class when you were in school as a kid. I enjoyed it myself.
If your logic is (A) is does not bear up to evidence, as I myself did not perceive that reality. The inconsistency questions the veracity of your fact
If your logic is (B) then I would assume, but never claim to know, that you ascribe to relativism, certainly of the cultural niche and perhaps too of the moral? That is an induction that could be wrong however. Being one of cultural relativism means you must have mistakenly wrote your statement without considering the agency of others' relativism...which makes your statement quite a failure....
unless of course you intended to take that agency from me, which might explain the somewhat confrontational, troll-ish diction surrounding a fact that is becoming more and more inconsistent that the only current implication, considering intention to deny my agency and relativism, would mean you perhaps consider solipsism as the most consistent aspect of your reality.
As there in no logic necessary in solipsism because it would mean you and only you exist, the need for any systemic and critical understanding would be superfluous to anything other than your own selfish needs and desire.
I could imagine Ayn Rand and you sitting by the trains, sipping tea together.

Perhaps a way around all this is to try a new logic, perhaps anti- Aristotelian logic where competition isn't necessary, perhaps? Allow me, please, and for your pleasure, to rewrite your fact to a more consistent one with the present reality that I think we both exist [but truly the possibility of our existing in differing dimension is certainly a possible, if not highly improbably, end result]

the rewrite: 'While I personally feel your post was distasteful mansplainin, I don't have the time to examine the reasons why, but it seems like the new mr show happens to not be that funny. nothing bigger conceptually than any ol podcasts that I have heard and I persoanlly think have already gone after such endgoals of satire in their comedy, but not knowing what you have heard and how you have no knowledge of mine, I guess we are both right when analyzed from our respective perspectives. '

Now if you meant what I just re-wrote and I misinterpreted it, apologies. I am simply acting on the little I know and thought I could help you refine the meaning behind your statement of fact, which I found upon evidence to be quite a false statement.

Hope you are having an awesome day amig@

Actually I think it was 2004. It was in Bloomington, not a tour. I was mainly excited to see the OP:CC reunion. They went "OK" and played a song when I yelled it out!

i make music with a program called Little Sound DJ that runs on Game Boy or in a Game Boy emulator. I then play guitar over it, mostly because I need something to do with myself live, but also I think it sounds cool.

I also dabble with FamiTracker, which is free but only for Windows, and exports files that can be played by an NES.

here's some stuff if you wanted to check it out: http://tonightwelaunch.bandcamp.com

I have some songs with vocals but that's all instrumental. It's all just one Game Boy and guitar over it.

it really depends on the criteria. I'm nostalgic for the Gray Race because it was the first album I owned by them, but it's not their best. I'd say I think No Control is their best record. I haven't kept up much past Process Of Belief, but I've checked out each new record on youtube or whatever and always find a few songs I like. They kind of all sound the same, but then I think a lot of times when they try to branch out into new sounds, it's not good. I feel like in a critical sense, they should just put out a 7" each year instead of a full record, but as far as that band being their full time job, I get it.

i saw that at PIX Fest in like...2005? I couldn't really make out any songs, it was just a bunch of people running around onstage. I'm sure it was a blast if you were in the band.

Once of my first concerts ever was Seaweed opening for Sponge and Candlebox. The latter two are pretty who-gives-a-shit bands but I still like Seaweed, and saw them play a show in Portland like 17 years later

I'm watching Halt and Catch Fire, which isn't perfect but is cool just as a period piece about the development of personal computers and online gaming in the 80s.

I started watching Humans, which has its moments but suffers from some dopey writing and the same dumb things literally every show about sentient robots does. I wish at least one of these shows would talk to an AI or neuroscience consultant instead of just re-writing Short Circuit.

Also just finished season 1 of Rick and Morty, which apart from being really funny, is legitimately the best science fiction show currently going. It's like a much darker cross between an actually-good Dr. Who and Futurama.

i guess i inadvertently collect music gear too, even though I hate gear and hate talking about gear

i have drums, guitar amps, a PA system, like 3 electric guitars, a bass, an acoustic guitar, a shitload of mics and cables and compressors and noise gates and interfaces and outboard guitar processors and other shit all over. I basically want to shovel it all into a coal fire but I legitimately use all of it for various things, so

i very half-assedly (meaning I refuse to spend much money and don't really have the space for it) collect old video game stuff. I use Game Boys and NES's to make music, so when I find that hardware for cheap I pick it up, since they're never going to make any more.

"Retro gaming" has gotten huge in the past 5 years so I unfortunately hardly ever find stuff outside of game stores where they're trying to get maximum eBay prices. I'll never drop more than maybe $20 on a game, and even then only when it's something I actually really want to play, so I'll probably never have that impressive of a collection, which I'm totally fine with.

At least Atari stuff is always cheap, and I have legitimate nostalgia for it since my older cousin gave us his old 2600 when I was a kid and I played the shit out of it.

Here, I played bass in this. The singer says "retards" once and I'm embarrassed about it. Otherwise, I think we did a great job.

One thing to also deter people from using Youtube going forward.   They're cutting support for IE version 8 and below, which is the highest version you can get on Windows XP systems.   Doesnt seem like much of an issue at first, but working in tech support, you realize how many people continue to use XP despite Microsoft's cutting of support for it.   Granted they can just get Chrome or Firefox, but a lot of people don't, or if they have it, don't use it.  Especially with the older generations.

here, I designed a page any responsible website should show you if your user agent is IE8 or below:

although the article does specifically say "music videos" so maybe it won't really affect that stuff at all

in a way i'll be glad to know that content is there because it's supposed to be; there are so many annoying parasites that put their own 30 second production company logo onto clips of other people's content and get like 30 million views that they're basically stealing

on the other hand i could see it interfering a little bit with one of the major functions that we all know youtube serves: "i just wanna quickly see/hear a thing that i know is probably not there legitimately but I just want to see it right now/link to it in a forum/show a friend without having to edit and host files myself"
