Lennon/McCartny are by far my two favorite songwriters with Lennon edging out McCartny by a mile (I don't care for a lot of Paul's mushy crap and don't care for any of his solo work). Kurt Cobain would be next on my favorite list though I understand that others have written better songs. His our simply my second favorite. McCartny is third if we separate Lennon/McCarty which I don't like doing since I feel like they made each other better. Paul Simon is great. Billie Joe Armstrong is another favorite. Weasel and particularly Weasel/Vapid were great together. Tony Sly was a great songwriter as is Joey Cape. Jeff Ott is good. Brett G and Greg Graffin are awesome too.

Didnt know those were his. I just have the bad taste of wings in my mouth when I think of.his solo. Solo lennon is amazing.. His use of primal.screams, "don't believe in the Beatles", all that good good. Fuck ringo but the drum fills on I want you shes so heavy are awe inspiring.

Philip glass, I suppose composers count. And paul simon.

Those are anomalies and you know it. Besides, I didn't mean that ALL of his songs are mushy crap I just said that he has a lot of songs that are mushy crap and that's why I like Lennon better.

There's also this song which is not mushy but still crap.

and Lou Reed. Velvet Underground aside, his solo work is solid. If I had to rate the ones worthy of being rated it'd go as such

8) Metal Machine Music makes the list because i respect a song writer who had the balls to put two amps facing each other, set up a 4 track, turn on both, record the feedback while he went out to score on a major labels dime.
