Username Meaning: Years ago I asked Jeremy to change my username to whatever he wanted, and he decided on "Cat_Mom_2004" for a reason I can't remember.

i remember that... I was super envious.  I think yr missing the beauty by leaving off the "2004", though, James.

I wish I could call my cat and check in on him when I have to work late... especially when there's a thunderstorm approaching, because thunderstorms freak him out.

If you were going to be hardline about it, then yeah, its a cartoonish appropriation of a 3500 year old culture with which current day residents of Egypt may still identify, but I don't know any of them.  Also, I do know some Greek folks, but I've never asked them if toga parties were offensive.

Interesting question.

I want my future butt-jewels back.

That situation sounds so shitty.  I had a similar one and I ended-up moving.

Your results will likely depend on the culture of the entire apartment complex.  If she is the only tenant behaving that way, then the management company might be afraid of losing you and other good tenants.  If the whole complex is a wreck and there are cigarette butts in every stairwell, then they may not really care whether you stay or go.

edit:  This reminds me of the other poster who called animal control on his neighbor and then said neighbor started dumping trash in his yard.  Let's hope it doesn't go there.

Times of Harvey Milk is so good. So is the Lego Movie. I really want to see Under the Skin, and Lucy. How to Train Your Dragon 2 was good too.

Lucy was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, just as a heads-up.

My biggest beef with ringtones is at work, when someone ventures far away while their phone is still on their desk.  It might be funny the first 17 times you hear their Tootsee Roll ringtone loop over-and-over at full volume.

Ring tones. I don't understand why people need them.  If vibrate isn't enough, then you are too far away from your phone for a ring tone, anyway.

Dog owners who don't keep their dog in check.

Auto drivers who feel entitled to be a jerk at everyone, whether it be pedestrians, cyclists, or other autos.

+ 4.0 my first semester of grad school.

Congrats on the 4.0 dakota.  Also, one time I wrote "www.internet.com"(or something similar) on some outgoing mail to you when I was visiting Cairo, just because I recognized your name from PIXboard as I was going through a stack.

+my new job has gotten super awesome in the last year, and I just got a huge raise and I feel like I'm worth it.
+an analog audio electronics class that wouldn't admit outside majors is now opening an online certificate program and I'm enrolled this semester.
+My hackerspace just moved into a 3300 square foot warehouse, and its biking distance.  4-years ago we had 120 square feet downtown. 2 years ago we moved into 1500, but it was really far away and I rarely went.

-I've been feeling slightly distanced from all of my best friends for the past 6 months. . .   Some seem addicted to nostalgia, some seem stuck in the limbo of pubs, and others seem trapped behind their own eyes.

+I'm beginning to not feel so guilty about being an artist.

Did you hear about Vivian Meyer?  She worked as a nanny in the mid 1900s, but was always taking photos.

In 2007-ish a person bought the contents of a Chicago storage locker.  It had 150,000 photographic negatives from the 1930's to 1970's.

I think Brett should make a rap album.  Someone trick him into doing that.

Also, starting a fake record label called "Plan-It-X Records Message Board Records" is probably a good idea.

I like it, Rory!  I like the pick-scraping at the end of Emma's Famous Coffee. Pick-scraping always seems like such a taboo, and I like it when people don't give a fuck.

I'm still playing avant improv whatever with revolving line-ups.  I've been playing Cigar Box Bass, Turntable, and Bowed Cymbals in the latest incarnation.  We'll record something in August, I think.

This recording is a year old, but its one of my favorites.  I was on drums, contact mics, and samples.
