Really hitting a wall today at work finding some new music. From going through my watched list on youtube this week though, this is the stuff I have really liked.

I swore there was another post like this, but I couldn't find it. So yeah here's another, please contribute. K thanks : )

Anna Karina

Really enjoying the Flamingo Shadow EP from last year. Basically Madeline doing Jefferson Airplane, hell yeah.

Other than that, I've mostly just been listening to Marilyn Manson, Black Eyes, Fiona Apple, and Paul Simon lately.

I've been listening to a lot of music that my younger self would ridicule me for liking. It's weird how much my taste in music has changed over the past few years. I was listening to Simon and Garfunkle the other day and the Beach Boys-Pet Sounds last night. I gained a little more appreciation for the Beach Boys in college X during a history of rock and roll course but never thought I'd listen to them.

Having said that, I'd rather listen to Papa Roach than GG Allin

Anderson Paak - Malibu is something I put on at least once a day when I'm at work.

Just got a copy of Husker Du - New Day Rising and am thrilled about it, so a lot of that.

and it's summer, so I'm listening to too much Radiator Hospital.

I really have a hard time getting into modern rap but I think Hopsin is pretty good. I like Montana of 300 too. Here's a few of the songs I like.

If you only listen to one of these songs, listen to Slaughterhouse. It has the usual violent content but is pretty great nonetheless. I really don't care what someone raps about as long as it's clever. I'm sure there are exceptions to that rule, though.

Speaking of modern hip hop, I recently heard this grime dude I'm really digging (ignore the video it's silly but the songs are sweet):

kinda weird how the earth continues to spin on its axis and everything eventually dies even when you don't want it to dang

That JME is awesome.

Some of these other videos are just too heavy on guns/violence/drugs etc for my taste. That's why I'd been digging Hopsin and Dem Atlas so much, I seem to be able to relate to their songs a lot easier.

However, I think it was Anna Karina who posted this on the old forum and I've been looking for songs like it ever since. While the lyrical content is basically everything I just said I hated, I can't get over how good the beat is. I think the style is referred to as Chill Hop, but what do I know I could have made that up. All the other Lucki Eck$ stuff just doesn't compare, but I've probably listened to this song 20 times now. Anyone know any songs that sound like this?

I understand where you're coming from I think I'm just used to it because that the kind of rap I grew up listening to. A lot of the rappers seem very thoughtful in interviews despite their violent content. I can't watch videos or get into rap when the artist is clearly an idiot. Speaking of which...

There's a lot more depth to it than just guns/violence/drugs, at least with the stuff I posted.

Vince Staples is a former Crip whose father was also a gang member, grew up in Long Beach, has a pretty specific point of view, an incredible flow, and is incredibly honest with regards to his childhood and what drew him into gang life. Also that music video is just cool.

Ka is an FDNY captain who has an incredible sense of storytelling and has a pretty dense focus on people/families dealing with hardships in Brooklyn, and may get fired from firefighting because the New York post wrote a lynchmob article about his "secret" double life as a firefighter.

ScHoolboy Q is definitely on the glorification side of things. Was also a Crip and tends to veer towards straight up gangster rap. His sense of timing and wordplay is what makes him interesting. Kendrick Lamar has learned a lot from him.

My favorite active band is The Menzingers. All of their albums have been good. This song was released last month and I can't wait for the new album.

Also, as mentioned in another thread the new Against Me! album is good. I'd like to know everyone else's thoughts on it. I actually bought it since none of the torrent sites I used to frequent work anymore.
