---- TMI ALERT i got an IUD implanted today and fuuuuuck my body is so mad at me now. having extreme period-style cramps for the first time in 2+ years and lord i was not ready. no amount of ibuprofen or lets be honest, marijuana, is helping me out of this mess. hopefully i'll feel better tomorrow cause i'm starting a nine day stretch!
---- despite loving my new boss, i still managed to find myself in a situation where she's going on vacation and i'm left trying to run the store with a management team that is so shitty it's not even endearing in an underdog sort of way. so over it.
+ getting paid a day early and with two solid 40 hrs weeks AND a sales bonus!
+ i got my boob lump checked out and yay i don't have breast cancer!

I've been thinking about getting a rice cooker too! we have sooo little room in our kitchen though. i really wish we had the counter space to keep a few small appliances all operational (ie. plugged in) at one time. can you make seasoned rice in a rice cooker or just plain rice? also can you cook quinoa in a rice cooker?

i went through a phase of using our slow cooker a few nights a week, mostly when we were both going to be out until after 10 or something. i think it's helpful for times like that and you can find some okay recipes (most need at least a little tweaking in my experience) but it does get old that the texture of the meat (sorry) is ALWAYS the same and stuff takes a lot of seasoning to be good. lately i've only been doing like shredded bbq chicken or jerk chicken that we put on top of salads. i did make a reeeeally bomb thai coconut curry soup in the slow cooker once though. search pinterest for recipes!

me and my boo have been trying reeeally hard to have a pretty strict/healthy/no junk food diet lately. finding variety and affordability when you're trying to stay under 400 calories per meal is a challenge. BUT i'm also learning a lot about different foods and the difference in how my body feels is amazing. i feel like i'm running on clean fuel for the first time in my life!

How do people not just stare at each other all the time?

i think most women would agree that "people" do stare at "each other" literally all the time. we just avoid eye contact because it makes us like 1% less likely to be fucked with.

lindsey, can you do a video tutorial on how to get your hair into that perfect bun please?

oh man, i actually have the weakest bun game ever since cutting my hair super short for new years. i just make a pony tail on top of my head and twist the ponytail around it, use a second elastic to hold that, loosen it just by tugging it a little, and then i have to use like 7 bobby pins to hold down all the stray hairs poking out and usually tuck a bunch into the bun too.

i am currently the assistant manager at a store called torrid, which for those who don't know is a trendy clothing store for plus size "women" (in quotes because i mean it IS a women's store by normal standards but we do sell to every gender and like half of my customers are drag queens or cross-dressers). I am pretty passionate about fashion for fat girls, but working a corporate job is pretty annoying. I am currently "on track" to be promotable in 6 months, meaning I would be ready to take over and run my own store. The company is looking at opening at least two more locations in the portland area and I am being considered for managing one of them. I am torn about making that commitment because I'm really not interested in working for the company for more than 2 more years at most, but i would make great money and if i did it for that long, it would be much easier to save up for tattoo school, which is what I really want to do. oregon requires tattoo artists to go to tattoo school and complete a predetermined curriculum (which a lot of people hate but I feel like it suits my learning style and personality way more than seeking out an apprenticeship). i think being a tattoo artist would suit me really well and i think i could be pretty awesome at it. BUT tattoo school is like ten grand, and I'm already in hella debt from going halfway through actual college and came up empty handed there, so i am weary. my alternate dream is to open my OWN fat girl store that would sell plus size vintage alongside independent designers and after taking some classes to perfect my sewing and pattern making skills, i would launch my own fashion line. a few stores like this already exist in portland so the market is pretty saturated so I'd probs have to move to make that legitimately work.

non-professionally, there are reasons to believe i might be engaged by the end of the year, so my future-plan-making motivations are changing a little, shifting from solo-mode to partner-mode. My boo is working towards being able to do acting full time, we're both working towards getting out of debt, and have humble goals like "buy a little house with a yard" and "move to canada".

otherwise i'm working really hard on being a responsible grown up, getting organized and keeping our place maintained, not being in lazy stoner teenage mode anymore. i also am going to learn how to drive by the end of next year. I GUESS

(google her if you're not familiar and then sob at the beauty like i do every day. her books only open like twice a year and i'm GETTING ON THAT SHIT THIS TIME WITHOUT A DOUBT)
Her work really is great. I love her animal skulls. What are you getting, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm obsessed with her floral pieces! I'm planning to get a mix of Roses and Dogwood flowers, representing my two homes of Portland (city of roses) and NC (state flower is dogwood) I'm sooooo stoked

-launch my plus size fashion blog
-work on getting involved with the local fat fashion community and try to see if any local plus designer might trade work for professional-level sewing lessons
-start collecting vintage to launch an online store in the fall (also prepare all the provisions like tags, flyers, etc)
-get my work area and also the rest of the clutter-collecting areas of my apartment hella hella clean and organized
-get my boob checked out to make sure i don't have cancer

the best thing that ever happened for my friendship with my most prolific ex/now friend (i don't know how to eloquently word "the dude i dated the longest but am now friends with") was that he got an std and we stopped sleeping together "accidentally" whenever we randomly hung out. once sex was definitely for sure like absolutely off the table, we became pretty great friends.

edit: JUST TO BE CLEAR it's not that i wouldn't ever make the educated decision to safely sleep with anyone who had an std under different [relationshippy] circumstances, but i'm not gonna chance it on an it's-tradition bang with an ex

I agree that having an end in sight is essential to being able to survive a long distance relationship. Whether it is vague or specific, knowing that you'll be together again eventually makes it all so much easier. I mean, it's still reeeally hard though. But if you guys are currently in a good place with each other, I'm sure you can make it work.
