General / Re: Running

I definitely need to start warming up beforehand. I may not be able to continue with the running, but I'd like to try for now. A lot of my friends are into doing the various races, and I'd like to be able to do something that not only helps me get in shape, but is a social activity. I went for my first "real" run today and it was actually pretty successful. There was a lot of walking, of course, but I was surprised and proud of the short distances I was able to run.

Plus I'll meet more cute dudes running in my neighborhood than doing pilates on my floor.

Good news, everyone!

I was able to find a local clinic that offers both psychiatrists and therapists. I've made an appointment with a psychiatrist because I NEED MEDS NOWWW before I have to commit myself, but I'm also considering therapy.

Blake, you know how behaviorists feel about counseling. I'm very well aware of my own behavior, I realize when I'm being a complete dickhead (and oftentimes act that way anyway), and in general and am just pretty aware of my behavior. The only thing I will say that I do not understand is where my personality ends (I've always been dangerously adventurous, overly analytical, etc.) and where that behavior becomes disordered. Basically, do you think therapy would help? If this doesn't cross ethical boundaries, is there a specific therapy you'd recommend?

Cairo was the dumbest fucking thing to try to get young, poor punk kids to do.

I thought of other non-work-related things I'm doing with my life. I've lost 35lbs, which is kind of a big deal. Trying to stave off the diabeetus that runs strong in my family. Getting more involved in the arts community in my city. I am not artistic at all, but I enjoy helping keep things going.

I hate running so much. I'm always afraid I'm gonna trip, I never remember to breathe properly, and I inevitably get side cramps. To be fair, I'm 5'3" 200lbs so I'm expecting this to be difficult.

Any pointers for people just starting out running? Breathing techniques? Ways to pace yourself? How to fend off those awful side cramps?

Can't we just start threads and discuss specific things instead of having a mish mash of topics to wade through?

Didn't Chris already try to start a punk utopia for every dumb young person to pour their savings into?

Lindsey, it's... it's from Target. Look, I just don't have time to scour thrift store racks looking for super cute stuff that comes in my size. I'd be hanging my head in shame if I didn't have such a cute romper.

Lindsey I've been trying to figure out how to move to the West Coast for like 9 months now. It's too damn expensive out there, man. I am planning another trip out there later this year, though probably back to SF.

Glen, you always sound like a really great dad.

Anyone know of where to start when looking for psychiatrists and therapists when your insurance doesn't cover it?

I do have insurance, but Aetna HMO is weird and isn't accepted a lot around here (I'm assuming because Tricare is a lot easier to deal with in a military town). I could theoretically afford about $200 or so a month for psychiatry and therapy, in which case I may as well just get off my mom's insurance (I have to by the end of the year anyway) and find a plan that covers local doctors.

Thoughts, adults of the pix board?

I'm going through a rough spot mentally, so I'm just going to say that I have an awesome job. I'm a behavior therapist with kids with autism and it's the one bright spot in my life right now. I'm really good at it, my kids are awesome and hilarious, and I make ballin' money to do something I love.

Ugh, I hate the thought of us not being friends. I'm pretty hopeful that we'll be able to figure it out, since we both seem pretty motivated to at least get back to being friends and helping each other move forward with life plans. Thanks for the advice, y'all.

Hahaha, there was a lot of drunkenness during that time, and I'm sure a lot of phone calls. PIX Board is always there for me<3.

Hannah, yeah, he's like family. I really value his friendship and he gives me a lot of good advice. Generally a good influence in my life. I think it'll make things easier since we only get to hang out when I come down to Florida to visit family.

Ahhhh, I'm seriously considering getting a rat! I'm scared to get one though because of this adorable creature:

Her name is Bernie and she's 6 years old and the bessttt.

We didn't talk for a little over a year, and just now hung out (we live in different states now), so about a year and a half. And he kind of is a different person now, or at least a lot different than I thought he was. I feel like I've changed, too, but just slid back to my old goofy, slightly reckless self instead of being so goddamn serious all the time.

I don't know. It's just weird. We dated for over 5 years, lived together, marriage and family were in the cards, etc.

Things people would normally make a thread to discuss end up getting buried in here. I'm starting a new thread in protest.
