+ pix fest was cool and i met some babes
- it was less cool because of anxiety, ticks, and having to be around a couple of people that make me feel sorta uncomfortable
+/- my general feeling right now is "bleh"

recently moved to toronto from the uk, settling in, working in a vegan bakery and trying to do a lot of my own craft stuff, hoping to visit a bunch of places i have never been to this side of the world. basically.

onsind/spoonboy/erica freas covering starships by nicki minaj at pix fest was one of my favourite things about pix fest.

i've been in a super long distance relationship for a while now - we met just over a year ago, i still lived in the uk then, and they live in chicago. a couple of months ago i moved to toronto so we are a little closer now but it's still a fair distance.because of work and money situations we haven't been able to visit each other since i moved, but tomorrow we are gonna see each other for the first time in like 6 months, and then they are coming to visit me next month.

honestly, there have been times where it has been super hard. what i've learnt from the whole thing is communication is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. you HAVE to make time for it. me and my partner have had times where our communication has sucked, and one or both of us has had an issue that we haven't talked about as well as we should have, and it's always made things a lot more difficult, but we've both really wanted it to work and we've learnt from our mistakes and generally have become stronger from that. we talk in some way most days which is great, but it's easy to let that become small talk, so i've found it's essential sometimes to agree to have a 'checking in' talk, to set aside some time for it and talk honestly about how we are both feeling about everything.

if you already have good communication that's a great start, and focussing on when you are gonna get to see each other and how awesome it's gonna be is a good way to get through the time apart too.

if you are able to keep living with an ex after breaking up that's pretty impressive. i'm generally okay at staying friends with exes but i have lived with two - one was because we both needed a place to live and neither of us were in a great place at the time. we had some crazy fights, definitely realised why we broke up, and i moved to another city a few months later. distance made us much better friends and we are totally fine now.

the other one, we lived together for a year while dating, then broke up and neither of us could really afford to move so we stayed in our house for the rest of our contract which was a few months. it was pretty awful - i think he had quite a lot of resentment and anger towards me and became very controlling and jealous, which has definitely had a really detrimental effect on our friendship.

from my experience, getting some distance after a break up is super important, to allow time to heal away from that person and remind myself that my life is okay without them being such an important part of it. it can be hard to enforce that distance but i generally think it allows the dust to settle quicker most of the time.

i didn't even know there was a google chat.

but yeah there are one or two people i have on facebook who i don't know very well who will message me to chat, and although i leave facebook open i'm usually busy at the same time so it's kinda annoying.

there is literally nothing interesting to say about them haha. i have a tattooist friend who offered to tattoo me before i moved away and i was trying to cram in a few things before the end. i'd been looking at pretty pictures of cicadas and thought they'd fit nicely on my wrists.

as for my shins, the ghost and pumpkin is just because i like halloween, and the cat teapot is based on a real life cat teapot that i bought for about 2 pounds from an antique shop, but i sadly left it in the uk when i moved away. at least i have the tattoo to remind me forever.

is he someone you can still see yourself being friends with? if so, it's bound to be weird after not hanging out for that long, but if you make sure to do it more regularly it should become easier.

i feel like i am pretty good at cooking, but i don't enjoy it one bit, which is a shame as i really like eating.

someone mentioned kale, i could happily live on fried kale with soy sauce and garlic. you could also substitute kale for broccoli and i'd be happy.

things i will eat all of at once:

scampi and lemon are to die for

followed by intense sugar shakes

i used to live with someone who had a small appetite. we'd go out for dinner and i'd eat all my meal and half of hers.
