General / Adelie's Top 5 Musicians/Bands
August 17, 2017, 05:28:04 AM
So I know a dude always talking about his baby can be annoying but my daughter, Adelie, loves music but she doesn't like just any music. It can be fast but it can't be too abrasive which means that while she definitely has a Nirvana onesie as well as a Nirvana hoodie, she's not a big fan yet. After trying different bands or singers, these are her favorites.

1. Elvis Presley (favorite song is "I can't help falling in love")
2. The Beatles (can't tell what her favorite song is of the Beatles but I can tell you that unlike her dad, Addy prefers early Beatles. They were playing the Beatles when she was delivered. We chose it because they asked what we wanted playing and it was one of the choices)
3. Michael Jackson (was almost #2 but while she really likes Michael Jackson, it's only a few songs that she really digs while with the Beatles I can play it for a long time and she's fine with it. Favorite song is "Rock with you".)
4. The Beach Boys (favorite song is "God only knows")
5. Jimi Hendrix (very weird but she seems to like a lot of Jimi Hendrix despite it being a little harder than her usual tastes. There's no favorite song that I can tell).

***Very honorable mention: whoever sings the Winni the Pooh theme songs from the movie from the 70s as well as the new adventures of Pooh from the 90s.

Amanda and I do play more kid oriented songs that we find online but I thought it would be fun to make a top 5 list of bands that we can both somewhat enjoy.

General / Happy Birthday to Becca!
July 30, 2017, 06:24:55 AM
I just wanted to take a minute to say happy birthday to Becca. I can't stress how much respect I have for her and how good of a person I think she is. Becca has always actively tried to help anyone on the board who is having problems and she was a great source of emotional support when I was going through a tough time with my wife and daughter in the hospital last month. Becca even came up with the first name of my daughter. I thinks it's pretty damn cool that someone can have such a positive impact on people that they've never met in person. Thank you Becca and I hope you have a great birthday.

I'm sorry. That sounds really frustrating. I am terrified of that age haha. I'm glad her relationship with her therapist is good. I wonder if she could use some one on one attention with you guys. I'm sure that's hard to admit or even recognize at that age.
We took her back to school shopping at the outlet stores an hour or so from where we live and went out to eat. It was 100 degrees and very humid so we left Adelie with my mother in law. Felicity did seem to enjoy herself but yeah she's not the best at admitting that she wants to spend time with us

Sorry Blake. What is your stepdaughter doing?
She's got a bad case of the "I'm the smartest person alive and my parents are stupid" syndrome. She has been grounded for not doing her chores, missing gymnastics because she refuses to get up, staying up all night on her phone, refusing to comply with groundings/having her stuff taken, and just generally does not seem to care the least about other people or herself at times. I feel like she's taking advantage of the fact that me and Amanda have been so preoccupied with Adelie since she's been having problems (colic and ear infection; she's getting better now). Felicity knows that Amanda can't take off after her if she leaves when she isn't supposed to and can't do a lot to enforce rules when I'm not here. When I am here, she gets her stuff taken and as soon as she earns it back and seems as if she's turned a new leaf it's the same old thing. Her phone is going to be shut off tomorrow if she doesn't do what is asked of her today and I'm confiscating all of her stuff and changing the wifi password. Hopefully she'll make the right decision because I love doing things for her but hate when I can't justify doing nice things for her. She's just been so disrespectful, especially when she's around her friends. She also lies a lot but that's not new. It had gotten better but now it's back. She also seems to have a fascination with getting high and seems to think Justin Bieber and his drug habit are cool. I've tried talking to her about my drug problems that I've had but she doesn't seem to think that it could happen to her which I know is common thinking in teens but she is still 12 and it's disturbing. I need to take her back to her therapist. She seems to listen to her.

Adelie has an ear infection so we have been super stressed out and between work and home I'm about to lose my mind. Oh and my 12 year old stepdaughter is acting out so that's fun.

Our baby has been home since Tuesday night and she's doing really well. We had a really hard time getting the doctor to discharge Adelie but we took her to the pediatrician the day after and she's doing great.

Adelie Rose is very good. 5 lbs 14 oz, 19 inches. She's 3 weeks early but I'm very glad she's here. I think everything is okay with her unless something comes up (fingers crossed nothing comes up). Amanda is doing better and is on the mend. We finally got to go to the post partum room and she doesn't have any IVs anymore. Hopefully releases on Monday but probably no later than Tuesday. It felt so strange going out into stores and driving around after essentially being in one room since Wednesday night. I hope Amanda recovers well and Adelie stays on course.

Are they worried about pre-eclampsia? Was there protein in her urine?
Let me know if you have any questions during the induction! It can be a long process, especially early.
Yes to both. That's  exactly what they were worried about. It definitely seems like it's going to take a while before stuff really starts happening. They think Adelie will be fine.

Well Amanda went in after hurting her arm and after checking her urine, blood pressure, etc. they decided to induce her tomorrow morning at 8 AM. I am so nervous as it's about 3 weeks early and feel completely unprepared. I'm so stressed out but am trying to act like everything is cool with me so I don't stress Amanda out. I feel so bad for her, she has a torn ligament in her arm and is giving birth tomorrow morning. We are chilling out in the hospital. Small chance she gives birth tonight but most likely not until tomorrow after 8. Holy shit.

General / Re: General Movie Thread
June 06, 2017, 05:41:35 PM
I watched a few newer releases on blu ray this month. Moonlight was a pretty good movie, though I thought it could have been longer so it could have covered more ground and developed the character better from teenager to adult. I noticed after watching that this may be the only movie I've ever seen that did not have any white people in it. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Manchester by the Sea was pretty depressing but good. I thought Casey Affleck was good in it and probably deserved best actor. I know it came out that he's a garbage human being but good movie which leads me to Birth of a Nation which was also good and along with Nate Parker should have nominated for more awards but get this, he too may be a garbage human being. I'm not sure why these (recent?) revelations about actors/directors didn't harm Affleck as much as Parker (okay I am sure but we won't go into it now).

I watched True Romance for the first time all the way through and it is amazing! One of my favorite movies now. I have no idea why I never watched it when I was a teenager.

Really, somebody else buying it wouldn't be such a bad deal necessarily.  It's not like a lot is getting done with the label as it is now.  There is a ton of classic material on PiX that is criminally out of print.  Hell, just put digital copies of everything up on bandcamp to make it accessible.
Some PIX stuff is on Apple Music. I'd have to research to see how much of it is there.

EDIT: It's pretty sparse. They have a few albums but overall they don't have a lot. I did just add some Operation Cliff Calvin to my library. I wish I hadn't have lost my CDs that came with the little booklet and had all of their songs. I can't remember what it was called.

It's a joke that he is hoping someone calls his bluff on.

I'd buy it for $10k though, like he always said, if it ain't cheap it ain't punk.
What would you do with it if you bought it?

This seems a little steep. I'd go in if it was a little lower (a lot lower actually). Where did you see that it was for sale? What would we get if we bought Plan It X other than the rights to distribute/license the songs on the label and use the name? I'd like to know what all we would have the rights to if we bought Plan It X. It seems very unlikely that this is really a thing.

yeah other than nirvana i guess, grunge is kind of bad.
You know Jer, I thought I would get more support from someone else over 30. You never owned a Soundgarden shirt? Weren't into Alice In Chains?

Here's the most grungiest video in the history of grunge and a tribute to the great Chris Cornell. He had one of the best voices in rock history.

I will say that any grunge recorded after 1996 is terrible and do not approve of bands who derive their sound from pre '96

General / Top 5 grunge bands
May 24, 2017, 05:04:40 PM
So I was watching top 10 lists on YouTube and they gave their top 10 greatest grunge bands. Now I'm not delusional enough to actually think there are 10 great grunge bands to begin with but there are 5 and I thought the order was more or less pretty good.

This is what they had for their top 5 and I think I agree if the emphasis is on grunge. If we are just ranking these 5 based on which of them is best I believe I'd flip Alice In Chains and Soungarden.

5. Stone Temple Pilots
4. Soundgarden
3. Pearl Jam
2. Alice In Chains
1. Nirvana

I'm not a big fan of PWR BTTM but assuming the allegations against Ben are true, it's pretty insidious and terrible to gain entry into and trust of a group by saying the right things and purporting to believe the same things as other members of the group. Very sad for all involved.

So what's the actual definition of sluttering? I've see several and don't know what the consensus is. I know he says it in the song but it's still not clear what exactly he's talking about.

Happy Jawbreaker Day, nonetheless. We're almost to Lagwagon Day. You'd think they'd stretch these punk rock holidays out a little.

Better Call Saul keeps getting better. I missed last weeks episode so I had to catch up last night. It was nice being able to watch these episodes back to back. It feels like the Gus/Mike storylines are slightly overpowering Jimmy's but it isn't that bad. I'm still interested and invested in Jimmy's story and feel like both are great and are coexisting pretty well.

I just saw Split and it was alright. I thought the ending was neat and was unaware of future plans prior to seeing it. I hope that's not a spoiler. I find it interesting that M. Night Samalamadingdong seems to place such an emphasis on mental illness and therapists/psychologists in his movies.
