Donnie Darko is the dumbest thing i've ever been forced to watch more than once

I feel like a ton of people loved Donnie Darko for a couple of years after it came out, but isn't the fact that it's horrible basically the unanimous consensus in 2014?
If you're over the age of 18 then I would say it is the consensus. It seems to be a movie that people grow out of when they get older and less angsty.
Do people hate Hollywoodland? I thought it was a good movie and would watch it again.

There's another movie that was similar to Bringing Out the Dead that came out around the same time. I think it's called Broken Vessels. I get the two confused. I know one consists of EMTs buying crack and other drugs. I liked whichever one has that in it.

Also, don't be ashamed of liking Joe Dirt. I think this thread will contain mostly comedies due to the fact that everyone I know seems to have at least one movie that they find hilarious that others might not.

A non comedy movie that I don't think that others like but I do is Mr Brooks.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox is his best movie. I mean....listen, we can fight, or you can all just admit it.
I've never seen it. My fiancé said it's good so I'll give it a try.
Holy shit! I was waiting for the page to load and trying to figure out which movie I'd say and I'll be goddamned if one second after I thought "Freddy Got Fingered" it appeared on the screen.

I'm less embarrassed now. I own it and saw it in the theater when it came out. I was a big Tom Green fan in high school. I'll have to rewatch it to see if I still like it. The scene where he's talking on a cordless phone in the restaurant was hilarious. 3 out of 5 stars (I don't know why I'm giving movies stars all of the sudden).
I believe I tried to watch Life Aquatic 3 or 4 times and fell asleep every time. I would have to go back and watch Rushmore but I thought it was overrated when it came out. I'll have to watch it next time I get the chance. I've seen the Royal Tanenbaums a few times. I'd give it 2.5 stars out of five.

Wes Anderson movies in general bore me to death.
I could definitely understand this. I really like Grand Budapest Hotel. I like his movies but that was my favorite.
I have not seen it, but have been meaning to once it is convenient for me (On Demand or Netflix) because I've heard it is enjoyable even from some friends who don't normally like his movies. I don't hate the movies. But I tend to go see them in theaters because my friends love the guy and I always leave kind of annoyed.
You should definitely watch it. After looking at his filmography on Wikipedia, I have come to the conclusion that I really don't like his movies either but Grand Budapest Hotel was really good.

Star Wars
Star Trek
Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter
Blade Runner
Agree with all of these except the original 3 Star Wars movies. I hate the prequels.

I did not like Anchorman the first time I saw it. The same with the Big Lebowski. I saw both several times after that and now love them both dearly.

I love Tarentino movies but could see how others might be put off by them.

I also love Paul Rudd and don't see how anyone could hate him.
There are a lot of comedies that involve people being humiliated or severely embarrassed that rub me the wrong way. I can't name any right off hand but I'm sure one will come to me. Sometimes that sort of thing bothers me and sometimes it doesn't.

I'm not a big fan of There's Something About Mary or Meet the Parents.

Action movies piss me off quite often. I didn't like Iron Man or the sequel. I do like the majority of the Die Hard movies, though and they're pretty formulaic action movies.

I'm glad you posted, Aaron. Becca and I were very worried about you. I'm sure others were as well as RRB (sorry I don't know your real name) also posted concerns. You definitely need help and that isn't a criticism or anything to be ashamed of. I think that most people on here including myself have sought professional help for psychological problems. It sounds like you're bipolar and need medication ASAP as you are at high risk for relapse given your untreated mental illness.

We really do care so please feel free to PM, call, or email one of us if you need someone to talk to or if you need help getting started addressing your mental health issues.

i thought i made a new friend the other night. i took a walk and saw a guy with a black flag shirt. whenever this situation occurs, I show them my black flag tattoo. We got to talking. the guy lives around the corner from me, literally a 5 minute walk. He was "cool". He plays drums and my band is in need of a drummer. He's in recovery from heroin as well. He smokes a buncha cigarettes and likes old butthole surfers. I gave him the cellphone number and told him to send me a text so we could hang. he said sure. he never texted. maybe he forgot? I don't have his number. would it be inappropriate to show up at his house asking if he was still up for jamming/hanging?
I don't know. From personal experience, a lot of times if I tell someone that I'm a recovering addict I've noticed that a lot of others will also say they are in recovery or quit using and it is almost never true. I suspect they just don't want to admit to current use and I get that (I've probably done the same myself in the past). This has led to several awkward situations in which I've been offered drugs.

I need new friends, as well. I don't want to hang out with people whose main purpose is to get as high or as drunk as they can. I don't have anything against people who use drugs or drink, it's just hard for me to be around it due to cravings and what not. I live in a really small town and aside from my fiancé and 1 longtime friend, I need more social interaction. No offense to my friend but he isn't one for conversations that are intellectually stimulating.

That's sad! Never really been a fan, but being homeless sucks when its not by choice.
It is sad but Scott Stapp's assholery makes it seem a little less sad. Also, I was wondering how someone who is broke can be living in a Holiday Inn. I don't know the rate at that particular Holiday Inn but the ones around here are about 120 bucks a night. Given his ranting and previous behavior I'm not sure that I believe his story but if it is true, it is sad. Especially for his family.

I got one  for self defense and also because I like target shooting. I never thought I'd own a gun but I feel safer with one now, given my situation. I've always been against having guns, too, and still feel kind of weird owning one.

I'd be really scared to put a gun in my name like you did, Ryan, not only due to the fact that the guy you bought it for seems shady, but also due to the possibility that it could change hands again and still be in your name. I don't know how it works where you live but there isn't a gun registry in Indiana so that guy could have gotten his own here

Ben Weasel spews dumb shit on a regular basis on Facebook. He's been going on about how Fat Mike is a hypocrite after Fat Mike kicked a fan (Fat Mike is a hypocrite and an asshole as well but that's beside the point) and apparently Asian Man were (are?) going to stop distributing music by Ben Weasel and the Queers due to some dumb shit Joe Queer said about Furgeson. I think Ben Weasel is a terrible person but damn it if the first few Screeching Weasel albums aren't great. It sucks that they were made by such a scumbag.

this is probably before your time, but there was that cody pandaxcore kid who was ANARKY TO THE MAXX who was hardcore pro-guns because that's the only way the revolution will start, man.

I wonder what happened to that guy. He was pretty bizarre dude, but he was generally nice enough.
One more dead cop!!
I really hope that Cody comes on here with news that he's now working for his local police department. That would make my day.

I'm dreading going to a shooting range around here. I've been going to a friend's house who lives in the country to shoot but I'd like somewhere else to go. Somewhere legal that I can go to without bugging my friend. Apparently there's a gun range where you send a check and they send a key and address. It sounds strange but maybe there won't be anyone there if I go at certain times.

I recently bought a handgun as well as a conceal and carry license. I was really struck by how easy it was to get a gun and a license to carry one. I went to a gun show at the armory in a neighboring town and it was full of right wing gun nuts with obscene amounts of guns. Some of these were licensed gun dealers and some were not. The ones who were not licensed were something else. I went in and decided I wanted to buy a gun for target shooting (I did not grow up with guns as a kid but enjoyed shooting them with friends as a teenager). I went up to the guy and gave him $300 and got a 9 mm pistol in return. He checked my driver's license to see if I was 18 and that was it. No background check, no personal information taken, no receipt. The man who claimed to be a Marine said that since he was just a dude selling guns and not a dealer there were no hoops to jump through. He started lamenting liberals which I found funny given the shirt I was wearing under my hoodie.

The license process was somewhat thorough as far as criminal background goes but was lacking in terms of screening for mental health. The mental health check was just me checking a box saying basically that I do not and have not had mental health issues.

Does the fact that a mentally unstable felon can walk into a gun show and get as many guns as they  like bother anyone?. I know that a felon couldn't get a license but I don't really think that a lot of felons would care about getting a license. I also know that it's hypocritical to engage in this process and then question it but it is somewhat alarming to me.

I'm going to say a few cliche words and then PM you. As you have probably told a thousand times, you need to be happy and comfortable with who you are before you can be in a healthy relationship. I am glad that you found someone who loves you and who makes you feel good about yourself. I'm sure you two love each other very much and give one another emotional support but I think you're going to have a lot of problems in that relationship if you don't become happy with yourself.

I'm keeping the rest in a private message as I'd rather not have what I say be public due to being paranoid about my life becoming public record.

I'm not trying to sell you anything, Ryan, but I do believe there are ways to limit the pain in life. Life is painful, at times, but there are ways to limit that pain (without using drugs).

I doubt anyone will believe me but Hang by Lagwagon is pretty fucking awesome. Lagwagon has stayed pretty good, for the most part. I liked the last album, Resolve, a lot as well. I think I like the new one better. It's much harder than most of the stuff they've put out in the past 10 years.

I just got back from seeing Gone Girl. It was the first movie I've seen in a theater in a year. I thought it was pretty good. Has anyone else seen it? Everyone is really good in it, even Tyler Perry. Neil Patrick Harris was very good in it. I would have liked a little more back story on his character. The overall story was more interesting than I thought it would be.
