What's gonna be in the town, though? You know, like when you're gonna move to a different town, but you want to take your favourite places with you?

I'm in Vegas right now, and one of the coolest things about it is the Pinball Hall of Fame, which had hundreds of old pinball and arcade games and is basically a museum where you get to play the exhibits. So I want to bring that to our town. Ooh, oh, and in Durham there is a neat store called The Scrap Exchange, which is a warehouse filled with masses of leftover materials, changing depending on what gets dropped off there -- buckets of keys, stacks of  Erlenmeyer flasks, tubs of used microfilm, stacks of tile samples, spools of stickers varying from hazardous signs to Whole Foods labels, all sorts of things! The idea is for folks to make art out of all that leftover junk.

Annnd I was just in Bloomington so of course I just wanted to bundle all of Boxcar Books into a knapsack and carry it with me whatever town I go to.

Ahhhh, I'm seriously considering getting a rat! I'm scared to get one though because of this adorable creature:
Her name is Bernie and she's 6 years old and the bessttt.
Sometimes cats and rats can be friends! I follow karasratworld on tumblr, and she has a bunch of rats that seem to be buds with her cat(s). I bet there are tips online on how to make that happen!

That's fine -- I'm sure we can effectively self-police via flamewars and ragequitting.

Bee, my partner and I schedule "checking in" talks, too! We call it the state of the union. Super helpful for discovering patterns and setting goals.

Dude, a skillet is the best for stuff like that. Any combination of veggies, plus some olive oil, salt, pepper, and heat, and it's yummy with minimal skill!

Seriously? There are so many internet people elbowing into conversations about cooking to yelp about how amazing and unhyperbolically life-saving their slow cooker is, I'd have thought slow-cookers can do no wrong!

I was with a partner for only a few months before it turned into a long distance relationship -- and it was a great two years, long distance notwithstanding! We saw eachother once a month, but texting and Skype really helped us stay connected, especially 'cause there was a solid foundation.

It might help to think about what you value about the relationship, what needs of yours it's meeting, and what you need to be happy; then, think about how to have those needs still be fulfilled long distance. Is it important to have someone to fall asleep with? Then you'll need to plan to call eachother before bed. Are your sexual desires a high priority? Maybe that's something that sexy Skype dates a few times a week can help with, or maybe you'll need to negotiate an open relationship.

As long as you still make time to enjoy eachother's company, you can stay connected. Especially if, like Lindsey said, it's a temporary situation with a reunion you guys can look forward to.

Oh man, just two minutes ago I was trying to find where Facebook hid the setting for who can send you messages (I wanted to make sure it was set to anybody sending me messages, so PIX Fest kids can contact me even if we're not friends), and found out that now, instead of saying "friends" or "friends of friends" or whatever, anybody can send you messages. There's no way to turn that off. Instead, we apparently have two inboxes -- one that you see notifications from, and another one you have to go to your messages to find. The only thing you control is whether only friends' messages go into your real inbox, or messages from friends and people Facebook decides you might know. Oh, and also people who pay Facebook. Those get sent into your real inbox no matter what setting you marked.

On top of that, there were a bunch of messages in my "other" folder from people I knew, that I would have wanted to see if I had known we had a secret "other" inbox.

Ughh, Google+, why did you let this happeeeeen?

Thanks for poking at it, dude!

Thanks for telling us, Rory! I've noticed your dread before, but I didn't know the extra significance. That's a touching way to remember someone!

The thing I remember about AIM is needing to switch names because eventually every time I logged in someone would be trying to talk to me.

But... now I spent 24/7 logged in to Google chat, and hardly ever talk to anyone? What's the influential variable here?

Here are my rattie-patties!

So I'm stoked! I'mma apply to grad school in aerospace engineering and live on the damn lake in rural NC and work for my company from home. AND I'm gonna be a WFTDA certified roller derby ref so that's a thing that will happen.

HI! I don't post here as much as I used to but I love you all. How are you all doing!?

That sounds like such a great setup! NC is beauutiiful! Working from home is a sweet deal! What do you do?

What got you to move to refereeing instead of playing?

I'm doing poorly, having a stressful time while I'm in Vegas for a few months helping with my mom's air conditioning business before going back home to GA. That's why I want to talk about you, instead!

Well, my $1, presumably.

You guys need to be telling the backstories for these beauties! Why you decided to get 'em, how you feel about it now, all that junk! Just pictures I can see any ol' time -- let's get to the invasion of privacy parts of tattoos.

My friend wrote a pretty long rant on it, in the first part contrasting it to the great setup the characters had in the animated Sleeping Beauty and the failed follow up in Maleficent: http://choclytgremlins.livejournal.com/69967.html

OH MY GOSH

I came into this thread to recommend my current favorite snack: roasted broccoli with olive oil and salt and paprika and cayenne pepper! Hatmoose, are we culinary twins?

Okay okay, I'll contribute a different thing: baked kale! Tear kale into bits, mix with way less olive oil than you would think, lay out on a foiled baking sheet, salt a wee bit, pop into the oven for 10 minutes at 420. So easy, so amazing. You can also cook the broccoli in the oven that way, though it takes like 20 min at 380.

There's lotsa ridesharing conversations happening over on the Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/events/471137219605551/

It is, of course, the absolute worst for coordinating anything.

I found out last week that there was one against Yelp in 2010, too! Apparently Yelp deletes good reviews and then contacts companies to get them to sign up with a service to delete/manage the bad reviews. It's basically extortion! My mama's A/C company experiences this personally, and apparently it's a whole big thing. Which is extra crappy, 'cause I've always considered Yelp super useful. At least no one actually liked Ticketmaster!

This color scheme makes me feel like I'm trapped in a preteen girl's bedroom. Her mom will discover me in her closet any day now.
