That new Hop Along. Every day. I got to see them play twice in Brooklyn a week or two ago, and they consistently blow me away with how good they are live. And how nice they all are. Great band.

The new Drug Church EP is pretty sweet.

The new Shinobu album does way more for me than any of their previous releases.

And, diving into stuff I've missed in years prior, I've also been getting into Kevin Devine and Self Defense Family lately.

I've been trying to watch a lot more movies lately to try and understand film study as a thing. These two dudes on YouTube, Every Frame a Painting and Nerdwriter, do video essays on movies that sparked my interest. Since starting this I've watched a lot of movies. So far my favorites are ones by Kubrick (The Shining above everything, pretty much), Fincher (Gone Girl was so good, and everything else I've seen by him is so good), and Lynch. Though I dipped for a while there into that French New Wave thing and watched a lot of Jean-Luc Goddard movies, and I tried to go further back with stuff from Fritz Lang and that movie The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, which is amazing. Anything you guys might recommend my way?
If you like Kubrick, anything by Tarkovsky, specifically Solaris and Stalker
Hiroshima Mon Amour
Persona
Fantastic Planet
Paris, Texas
The Double Life of Veronique
Sullivan's Travels
Paper Moon
The Last Picture Show
Wings of Desire
Ratcatcher
I Am Cuba
Punishment Park
Le Bonheur

I did watch Nostalghia by him, I really liked it! I have Solaris, Andrei's Childhood and The Sacrifice very high on my to-watch list.  And I haven't seen any of those movies. Awesome; thank you.

I've been having a particular hard few months recently. I tend towards spirals of self-loathing, but this has been the longest-lasting so far. My best friend and roommate keeps telling me to go see a therapist, or at least our school's personal counseling office, but instead I've just stopped telling her anything because I just don't want to do that. I've always tended to see my depression as very passive; I still get done what I need to get done, but I dunno. That's where I'm at right now. I hope you're all doing okay.

The Wire is a show I think you need to finish the entire seasons before really judging them. Season two doesn't start off as strongly but I think the final episodes are better than the first season.

Season 4 is where it's really at though.
I just finished season 3 and it turned out to be pretty good. I liked it more than season 2. I'm watching the first episode of season 4 now. I have high hopes for it given your high opinion. You are usually right when it comes to tv and movies. Omar is still my favorite character. I'd like to see Brother what's his name team up with him again. They work well together for being so different. I can't believe what happened to Stringer. I figured that Avon and Stringer's positions would be the opposite of what they are now.

I've been trying to watch The Wire recently, with a lot of downtime because the person I'm watching it with can only hang out like once a month. I'm in the middle of the first season and I like it a lot. Idris Elba's performance is amazing, and going from Luther to this was really cool.

Is anyone else way too excited that Twin Peaks is coming back?

Hey I finally finished Infinite Jest about a month ago. Took me all summer or two and half years depending on whether me restarting counts. What're your thoughts?

Things blowing my mind lately:
Panic attacks over cover letters
(this is pretentious) Ulysses
The trials of attempting to go vegan
Paul Thomas Anderson

Hey, all. I don't post here much, if I ever did at all. But I just read through this thread and wanted to offer all of you what little thing this is:

I have my own struggle with depression and I know how much it hurts but I think you're all much better people than you think you are. I know this random kid on the internet isn't going to change your opinion much, but I just wanted to throw something out there. I hope you're all okay.
