It would definitely kill the board for real but we'd probably all actually talk to each other a lot more.

Almost all of my other forums have done this and it has been kind of great.
I like the Facebook group idea. People who come to the board can be warned that the board is mostly inactive and direct them to the Facebook group. If it's a closed group that requires an invite, people could post on the board and ask for an invite. I really don't know how all of this works, I just know that I have liked the Facebook groups I have been a part of and think it would be fun. The board does seem to allow for more privacy and anonymity but that's the only real advantage I can think of of.
It sucks, I really like the idea of online spaces controlled and maintained by the community that uses them. But the convenience of Facebook's one-stop-socializing has made it kind of a hard sell to get people to keep participating.

Yeah Facebook just depresses me these days. Everyone I know is married, having kids, and in general doing better at life than me. Even without the activity, I check the board more often than I do Facebook.
