Title: Music 2014
Post by: Jaybird on October 02, 2014, 09:12:11 AM
Hey Guys, new here.

I'm so behind on music. I'm basically making this thread hoping for opinions. There hasn't been much new in the Ghost Mice, Against Me, Defiance Ohio, Wild, etc etc vein as far as I've seen and I haven't heard hardly any new music this year that I like. So recommendations are appreciated.

Here's what I got...
Andrew Jackson Jihad- Christmas Album (Fav of the year)
Cheap Girls - Famous graves (not my favorite by them but good)
YG- My Krazy Life
New Nana Grizol
Priests- forgot the album but singer sounds a bit like Kathleen Hannah to me.
Solo Jeff Rosenstock
CLoud Nothings- Here and Nowhere Else
Junior Battles- Rally
Protomartyr - Under Color of Official Right
Hailey, It Happens- Under the Brilliant Lights
New Run The Jewels, White Lung, You Blew It

Radiator Hospitals new record is a-fucking-mazing, no joke homie.

Also RVIVR has released a new 7" which is fantastic and Caves are releasing a record in a month which will probably be the best thing to happen to the world since sun dried tomatoes.

Jaybird, new Wild 7" juuuuuust came in from the plant.  It's an acoustic split with our pal Ryan Harvey.  PIX should have some for sale within a few weeks.

We've also got a new full-length a'brewin', but it won't be out until mid-next year.

Does anyone pay attention to Battle Rap?  Aside from the blatant racism/sexism/homophobia that you find in the majority of the hip hop world, it's pretty interesting.

As far as creative lyricism, drama and just some addictive x factor, Battle Rap is just compelling.  As far as I'm concerend the most talented lyricists in hip hop are in the battle world right now.

To clarify, battling now isnt like 8 Mile, the rounds are anywhere from 2-12 minutes and most of it is pre-written with a bit of freestyle thrown in.  IT's like debate/theater/hip hop.

I had no idea there was new Sycamore Smith stuff, and I think it's so odd how he's on the RISC distro. He's just some guy in the upper peninsula, never would have guessed people outside of Michigan would know how fucking genius he is.

Yeah he must have played with Streetlight once or something and they ended up becoming friends and eventually a part of RISC. Now just through them he must get a fair amount of exposure!

I doubt anyone will believe me but Hang by Lagwagon is pretty fucking awesome. Lagwagon has stayed pretty good, for the most part. I liked the last album, Resolve, a lot as well. I think I like the new one better. It's much harder than most of the stuff they've put out in the past 10 years.

lagwagon is one of my favorite bands. i still listen to hoss and lets talk about feelings as often as possible. when i'm barely feeling like a human fucking being on the bus at 5 something in the morning nothing gets me tapping and boppin like violins. i gotta check out the new album. haven't listened to it yet but i'm sure it's golden.

If you like Jeff Rosenstock, then you should check out Antarctigo Vespucci's albums at quoteunquoterecords.com/albums.htm (http://quoteunquoterecords.com/albums.htm)
For major stuff there's
Andrew Jackson Jihad Christmas Island on Side One Dummy
Hard Girls Thousand Surfaces on Asian Man
Nana Grizol Nightlights+Tacoma Center on Bandcamp
and then there were the Against Me! albums, but I didn't listen to those.
And if you want to try something different, Alive//Well by Bread Club and Space by Ruder and the Shockwaves're sweet.
