Chris is Kickstarting a book on when he/ PIX relocated to Cairo, IL and the failed project to turn the dead town into a punk rock utopia.

It is available for pre-order here:

kinda weird how the earth continues to spin on its axis and everything eventually dies even when you don't want it to dang

I'm bummed that the last attempt to Kickstart this didn't work out, because I was really looking forward to the monthly letters!

Either way, backed.

I didn't realize he had tried to do one for this before, I totally would have donated then. I only saw it when I stumbled across this one and saw the last campaign wasn't funded. This is the era right around when I joined the board so I'm even more curious about it just because of what it represents.

i'm bummed it didn't turn into the punkrock neverland it should of and could of been, or at least i wish it was and i wish will someday exist outside of the one i'm making in life due to some stunted mental immaturity

This whole thing weirded me out. I'd be interested in hearing why Chris wanted to do this, how he felt/feels about the ways it affected individuals who moved there, and what his thoughts are regarding this project having a hint of gentrification.

I remember heading somewhere that they found some weird shit in the building.  It was very cryptic and there was a lot of speculation as to what was found, so I'm curious how in depth the book would go.  I'm going to pretend it's some Masonic shit, and maybe a corpse or two.

I thought at the time it kinda seemed like nothing but self/label/financial sabotage. I understand his original thinking, or what i believe i read somewhere, where he said something along the lines of what's the point of putting a space in a town already saturated with it. why "preach to the choir"? but i don't think a dusty town that probably didn't even know the great depression ended would turn into a punktopia and they'd probably be terrified of the punks who came if they did. it would be like MAD Max fury road to them

I'm curious why Chris always goes for Kickstarter campaigns, don't you get to keep the money even if it isn't fully funded on Indiegogo? Thats a good way to at least get the per-order money in the door.

I kind of got the same feeling. I get that PIX is more of a community than other labels and I understand wanting to move somewhere ghost town-like to bring some life to a dying community but the whole thing seemed like it needed more thought put into it, like Courtney said about how it would have effected people in the community long-term had it been successful as well as how it could and did effect Chris and the label personally and financially. Curious to hear what Chris has to say about it.

I'm assuming the money he asks for is enough to cover the smallest run possible, so if he falls short on indie go go, he'd have to cover the difference out of pocket, and probably doesn't have that available.

That's true, I was just thinking at least you're part way there, but if you can't scrounge the rest keeping half the cost of the production run doesn't really matter/ isn't helpful.

i think the reason it's happening is just that, he's always reaching into his own pocket at the end of the day (i assume) . that gets tiring with no pay back. it's easy to be ideological around punx, message boards, intellectuals but labors of love lose momentum quickly due to that annoying nuisance called life with its bills and neurosis

I think I read it in two days. Anyone else donate/ read it yet? It was really good and sad (like Free Pizza for Life). It was interesting to get the full details about how this all went down.

my guess is it was either the black grail (a chalice with the shit n' spunk of judas when he boogeyed on the end of the rope doing the death rattle) or the cursed crib (the aborted anti-christs cute lil crib with a hole for it's umblical cord to poke out and do it's evil bidding)
