From all the research I have done on writing the "Articles of Incorporation," it just appears to be to simple and generic.

Has anyone ever participated in this part of a non-profit and is it that generic?
I have read that it costs approximately $5k-$10k to hire a lawyer to do this so how is it that simple to do at home?

Definitely do not pay that much or even close to it. Do your best and have smart people proofread it. The most important thing is to make sure you read each question clearly and answer it directly. They will usually send it back with things you need to fix and then you just do that.
