I've seen over 33 of the ones you listed. I also have been collecting and watching horror movies for 15 years. Last I counted I have at least 2,000 of them. But yeah, my opinion is stupid.

Anna Karina

Yes, I will maintain that saying 20 years of films suck is a stupid opinion.

Don't you like really shitty horror films to begin with? All horror films have their place, but that's just laughable. Bet you own some Troma garbage.

jer

hey look, brett is unreasonably upset because someone doesn't share his opinion, again.

Making blanket statements about anything is dumb.

Almost all black people love watermelon.

jer

yes a subjective opinion about entertainment is certainly worth the same scorn as racism.

Have fun purposely misinterpreting my posts like in the Tusk thread. I'll be over here, rolling logs.

jer

purposely misinterpreting?

The only way to interpret that is you comparing his opinion to making a blanket statements about black people.

I don't actually care about any of this. I've been in a miserable mood trying to figure out life stuff. Troma fucking sucks though.

I've been reading this board for awhile but I made an account to comment on this.

I've been obsessively watching every post 2000 horror movie for the past few months.  Dunno why, never really watched horror before.  Anyway here's my list.

Also, has anyone watched Marble Hornets? Is it worth watching?

Here's the thing. Horror movies are great but rarely do they make me actually feel scared. I don't know why but lately I've had this unyielding desire to feel afraid. So my first list is movies that are scary (There's only a few)

Scary
1. Grave Encounters
2.The Last Exorcism
3. The Ring
4. Sinister
5. Grave Encounters 2
6. Oculus
7. VHS
8. Most Twilight Zone Episodes
9. Posession
10. Dark Skies

Horror[/b] (not really in order)
1. The Loved Ones
2. May
3. The Girl Next Door
4. The Lost
5. Cheap Thrills
6. Resolution
7. All Cheerleaders Die
8. The Purge
9. Insidious
10. VHS 2.
11. Mama
12.  Under the Skin
13. Hostel 1
14. Hostel 2
15. Bram Stokers Dracula
16. The Awakening
17. The Exorcism of Emily Rose
18. Rec/ Quarantine
19. Audition

I need more though. Will definitely make use of the above list.
Anyone have more horror that really scares you?

Anna Karina

Welcome to the board.

I'll try and respond better when I get off work re: films being scary. I agree which is why I try and look for other aspects in horror films to like instead.

Once again, sorry 'bout earlier.

Off work now so I'll try and go a bit further into detail about what I enjoy in horror films. What tends to interest me the most is when a film can utilize elements of horror to depict a horrifying event or events.  By that, I don't necessarily mean something actually scary, but rather something that could/does happen or that strikes a particular fear and causes anxiety.

Which is why I added films that people could argue aren't really horror films (Snowtown, Zodiac, Edmond, Under the Skin, etc). For the most part, Snowtown is a straight up drama, but it's realistic portrayal of death and manipulation is far more frightening and interesting to me than something like, say, Paranoid Activity. There's hardly any violence actually depicted in the film, but its dread and uneasiness is a lot closer to films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre than most horror films.

Vinyan's another example of that.

I understand that a lot of people don't find enjoyment in those kinds of films and would rather have something more funny/entertaining, but I think humor is a copout for most horror films.  Almost everything seems to be a comedy horror now and it's become so overdone at this point.  A lot like most torture porn.

It's so hard to find a good original horror film, but that just makes stumbling across something like Sleep Tight more memorable to me.  I don't know that I would necessarily categorize them as "scary," but to me the ones that come as close to it recently are Kidnapped, Sleep Tight, Inside, [rec], Audition.

I'm probably rambling and everything I said is stupid as hell so I'm gonna go ahead and end it with this sentence right

here.

Anna Karina

I should have probably taken the time to plot out my bullet points of what I wanted to hit in that post but it's 4am and my cat won't shut up.

I totally get you. I don't always need a film to be scary, that's why I made the two lists, it's just sometimes and especially lately, I crave it, it's weird.  Grave Encounters is the scariest I've seen.

While I enjoy it I feel there have been a lot of horror movies lately that use some kind of horror theme as a metaphor for teen angst or puberty. It's cool but it's becoming a trope I think.

I've been meaning to watch Snowtown and Deadgirl.

Oh, you know what is great Anna, Jugface!  I really recommend it.  Completely unique.  Also The Last Exorcism from an acting standpoint is incredible.

Yeah, I would always confuse the title with Army of Darkness for some reason and be like "oh yeah, I've seen that."

It would make a good double feature with Possession for a Sam Neill movie night.

Jaybird

Watching Dead Girl. It's a very disturbing concept. Like really really.

did you end up with the double feature?

I haven't seen Possession since i was 14 or 15 (about 15 years ago) i remember it really creeping me out but the only visual memory i have of it is Sam Neil sitting in a chair by the window all alone and having this look on his face, a combination of fear and sadness that's very intense. intense enough that having seen it only once since a kid its engrained in my mind. very freaky

Nah, Possession is one of my favorite movies and I've already watched it twice since buying the new blu ray of it.

I watched Aja's newest movie Horns tonight (starring the Harry Potter dude). It was aight. Not the best but was pretty entertaining for the most part, just fell apart towards the end.

Now watching ABCs of Death 2 which I know I'll hate.

Going back to this. You should revisit it. Mondo-Vision did a phenomenal job with the transfer (which is good considering it took them half a decade working on it). Sam Neil is great in it (and I love that scene you mentioned) but Isabelle Adjani steals the show. And they're mostly not horror, but I highly recommend checking out some of Andrzej Żuławski other movies, too.  One of the most underrated directors of all time, in my opinion.
