Brett I didn't want to keep derailing the intro thread, but I did want to say that I don't dislike IPAs on the whole, I just sometimes don't want one, but in this little craft beer haven I live in, sometimes a bar will only have IPAs, and I just wont be feeling it that day.

But I have been drinking an inordinate amount of this recently:

So we've talked, we're stickin' together. We're going to skype and make time for each other. It wont be hard for me to do, it'll be harder for her since her grad program is fairly rigorous. There's still tons to work out, but I'm hopeful!

Totally. I guess I went with "old" because it seemed like a development in my life to be less capable to handle, rather than just the fact that it was just tough in general.

But now that I'm away from everything, I'm already prepared to find myself at some other queer friendly punk free for all haven.

I had a tough time maintaining energy in the heat and humidity, the sun, the lack of food (aka the lack of my own preparation), being in crowds. I've seen so many great bands and met so many great people through and because of PIX, but after a few fests I feel like I just cannot do stuff like that anymore. My enthusiasm no longer seems to outweigh my discomfort.

But there were also some other factors going on that probably led to this feeling, and it was probably just circumstantial.

We need some new inside jokes for this text.

beer lists that are almost exclusively IPAs

Just ranted about this same pet peeve with my boss the other day. Ugh.

Yeah I'm strange looking and gender nonconforming so getting stared at is almost like a skill I have at this point.

But like, sometimes you just have this compulsion to look at someone, and it's not a mean to be creepy, there's just something totally interesting going on. I try my best not to stare when I feel that way, mostly because I know what it's like to be stared at with reckless abandon (which is to say, it sucks and is terrifying).

What's up, Overcooked Pizza Rolls?

For serious though - "I don't care" is the biggest example of cis privilege. Do you self-identify as male? Then you use male pronouns, none of this "well, whatever works" bullshit. Same goes for folks that self-identify as female. Just because you don't care, doesn't mean other folks don't care.

This is an odd response to me for a few things. For one, he's 17. When I was 17 I'd have like no concept of this sort of stuff, and would also probably respond with "I don't care" in a place that I'm comfortable, where I'd say I use feminine in a place I'm more uncomfortable. And even now, I say that whatever pronouns are used at me is okay because making a big stink and fuss is not a place that I am at yet. And perhaps that's because I don't "pass," and also don't really want to, and I understand the misgendering risk of that except in exclusive corners. How come I didn't get a talking to about this, but you picked on this kid?

Also, "male" pronouns, what the hell is that? It's some basic linguistic shaping to say "masculine" and "feminine" when referring to gender, while saying "male" and "female" for biological sex. I know people trip it up a lot, but it seems weird to use it incorrectly while giving a kid some shit about gender stuff.

Anyhwo, sup Noah, I saw you at PIXfest like a million times and didn't say hey because I'm awkward. Seemed like you were having a good time.

General / Introduce Yourself Thread

This was a pretty good thread that was going on the old forum, and now that we're at a fresh start and there's been some bolstering towards new activity here, maybe an intro thread would be nice. We all get to know each other slowly though posting, but it always helps me to have a name and face to the posting, even if my memory is kind of terrible at this sort of thing.

This is sort of how I remember the old one being structured, and it was pretty good. Add anything you want to that you feel this is lacking.

I think the only reason we haven't really talked about it yet is because we're sharing a room and house right up until she leaves. If we had talked it over a few months ago only to go "cool we're going to break up, this is going to be too stressful to continue at this time" then we would have had a few months of just kicking it in the same room together,  knowing that everything is ending.

But the longer we've been putting off the inevitable discussion, the more it is looking like we're going to stay together and just figure out a new way for that to be.

+ Pixfest!
-/+ Pixfest was hard and perhaps I am an old old man instead of a young wide eyed punk. But seeing friends from all over was so great, and Emperor X / Eric Ayotte got me bawling my little eyes out.
+++ When I went away for the weekend, a friend of mine took my moped (which has been broken for almost two years) and was able to fix it already! It's up and running! I am mobile again!

I'm living in a house called Milhouse, and wondering why the kid pool on our porch known as Milpool is asking me about my life.

I have a real answer for this but I got back from PIXfest and my whole self is fried.

This recording is a year old, but its one of my favorites.  I was on drums, contact mics, and samples.

This is pretty cool. A lot of my friends are in ambient/noise/improv projects, some kind of like this. Sounding good.

What music are you currently (or previously) making! I know we had this thread going in one of the subforums forever ago, it'd be nice to have one that is definitely current board members going.

Right now the main band I'm in is called Anybody But The Cops. It's angular noisy mostly instrumental punk stuff. Definitely doesn't translate so well recorded as it does live, but what can you do.

Nothing about this new board works.

We should overhaul the admins, probably, that would assuredly fix it.
