- Car died and is now en route to a junk yard.  No money for a new vehicle right now, but I absolutely need one for my current work / school situation.
- Feeling listless about lots of things.  School.  Work.  Writing.  Shows.  Generally spending time with people.
+ Made some Japanese-inspired soup from scratch this evening that was decently tasty.
+ Tried a handful of new sodas this week, including a Russian tarragon soda.
+ My band's 7"s that we ordered 11 months ago finally came in last night.

Literally every "emo revival" band.  I don't get it.

First off, I wouldn't tell anyone, aside from my parents and significant other.

Pay off my student loans and go back to school for my doctorate.
Give money to my friends' projects and initiatives.
Buy my close relatives that I actually like some nice things for putting up with me for all these years.
Buy a house.
Get a new (used) car to replace my falling apart one.
Get some more recording stuff.
Finally get my wisdom teeth yanked out.
Release the new Rio de la Muerte album.

Awh man!  I remember Waikiki Punch.  Save-a-lot has some great names for their sodas: Mountain Holler (and variant Red Howl), Bubba Cola, Tubz Root Beer

It's not as hyped as Cheerwine, but I've never seen it east of Arizona.

Do you guys have Tahitian Treat over there?  I think that was Dr P. / Snapple Group's answer to CC for us East Coasters.

Honestly, I'm not sure I've experienced a huge hype over Cheerwine besides how much I love it. Most of the people I talk to about it say, "Oh yeah, that's a good soda" or they haven't heard of it. For me, it's made right near where I grew up and it was a huge part of my childhood when my dad and I would walk to the general store and buy Cheerwine in a glass bottle.

You probably don't see the hype as much because you grew up in an area in which Cheerwine was pretty commonplace and seen around a lot.  For us East Coasters, I think of it in relation to Cactus Cooler.  I remember hearing about how awesome Cactus Cooler was for years, but never had the chance to try it because it's even more impossible to find on the East Coast than Cheerwine is on the West Coast.  When I finally tried it in Santa Barbara a few years ago, I was pretty underwhelmed.  It was good, but not the-best-soda-I've-ever-had-and-will-ever-have good like it had been hyped up to me.

When you boil it all down and remove all of the emotional associations with it, unless you get it in a glass bottle, Cheerwine's just another HFCS soda that happens to be decently tasty and also decently hard to find.

How different from regular Cheerwine is it?

Hopefully a lot different. Cheerwine is the most overrated horseshit soda.

I think Cheerwine is tasty, but it's definitely overhyped.  I think it's cool that Cheerwine is still an independent, family-owned company, and I also think a lot of folks really latch onto it because 1) there aren't really many other purely cherry sodas (most are cherry cola or cherry plus some other flavor) and 2) Cheerwine is something that's this weird balance of being mainstream yet uncommon.  People know about Cheerwine and have maybe had it a time or two, but seldom see it on their store shelves.  For most of its life, Cheerwine has been a cool Southern thing (although its been popping up all over the place recently) and has this strange hype around it because of its almost geographically exclusive distribution map.

Firestorm doesn't have a stable new location yet. Try hitting up Ben Algeroy. He goes to Warren Wilson and sets up shows there. I don't have his email address on hand, but if you're on Facebook you can easily find him on there.

Mix Cheerwine with Canada Dry Ginger Ale (or any other basic ginger ale), and that's what it tastes like. It's pretty good! If it wasn't marked as being Cheerwine, I'm not sure I would have been able to recognize it as such, but again, it's worth trying.

It's been a huge hit so far, and I think they're going to really expand the market next year.

This is its pilot run, so it's only available in select NC and SC markets.  I found mine at a Bi-Lo in Greenville, and it was one of maybe three left.  It's really tasty, though!  Scoop some up if ya see it!

Aaron, if you need to get away from your house for a bit, you're more than welcome to come hang out with me.  You don't live too far down the road, and I'm finished with school for the semester.  I've still got work and stuff going on, but don't hesitate to shoot me a text or FB message or give me a call.

There's a restaurant down the road from my house that makes pretty interesting sodas.  This one is called Pepper Tree Island and contained caraway, cranberry, pomegranate, pink peppercorn, and anise.

Guarana-flavored sodas are pretty good!  The flavor is a little weird at first, but after awhile you get used to it.  Have you ever had BAWLS?  They make a guarana root beer that I've been looking for.

Pretty sure I talked about these earlier on in this thread, but a store right next to my house started stocking them, and I was finally able to use all of the coupons I won!

The best flavors are Revive Root Beer and Pure Doctor.  They taste like regular sodas, but go down smooth and have all the good stuff of kombucha.  Definitely recommended if ya see 'em!

+ Lots of shows lately.  Delay, Spoonboy, Laura Stevenson, All Dogs, The Sidekicks, Hard Girls, Lipstick Homicide, and a ton of other great bands over the past week or so.  Eric Ayotte is also coming through on Monday, which will be great!
- So. Tired.
+ Almost done with this semester.  I like all my classes and my 8th graders, but it'll be nice to have a break.

Yah.  dakotafloyd@gmail.com whenever you're ready.

What schools / programs are ya looking at?  I'm finishing my master's in July.  Currently looking at doctoral programs.

holy jumping kangaroos dakota, did you do two years worth of masters stuff in one? (or is my sense of time off again, as it often is, except in term of the now. i can tell you what time it is without looking at the clock but future dates, past experieces, all like farts in the wind)

Yeah, I'm doing a typically two-year program in a year. Next semester is gonna be pretty intense, but I think I'll be fine. :)

Columbia, SC might work even better than GVSC if it comes down to it. I've got some contacts I can pass along if ya need 'em.
