Super old thread, but I've got so much respect for Fred Cole / Dead Moon.  They were a band that did things on their own terms nearly 100% of the time.

Have you gotten a chance to see the huge Dead Moon coffee table book that Mississippi Records put out last year?  It's full of old flyers, photos, and comes with a double LP of "greatest hits" and some demos.  Really, really well put together.  A tad on the pricey side (~$60), but it's 300+ pages in full color.

I never knew Peter super well, but we follow each other on the internet.  Seems like they're doing well with art stuff!

If anyone is interested, a lot of the older Bloomington crew is still playing music.  A bunch of it is being put out by Let's Pretend Records in Bton.  There's also a really cool tape label based out of Chattanooga called Lifer Tapes that's been putting out stuff from Riversedge, Basement Benders, Mixed Signals, and The Bananas.  Those first three are ex-This Bike, Future Virgins, other PIX South bands.

I read this whenever it was first posted!  Such a solid read.  Made me proud to have grown up in the Southeastern punk scene.

I'm definitely not a huge fan of sweet potatoes, which was a blasphemous thing to say around the PIX crowd I found out.  I don't mind 'em in pie, but pretty much anywhere else?  No thank you.

I dunno how I went down the internet rabbit hole to find this ol' place again, but hi!  Hope everyone has been well over the past few years. :)

General / The new Rio de la Muerte album...
March 31, 2016, 06:15:43 PM
Hi.  Sorry to get your hopes up with the thread title.  I've been playing solo shows for over ten years, and my first record is officially coming out tomorrow.  I wanted to take a second to share it here.  It's always been my goal to have this thing out before the new Rio de la Muerte record, and I can finally say I've achieved that.

Would love to hear what you think!

General / Re: Is anyone going to PIX fest?

See ya there! :)  For anyone who hasn't heard yet:

Plan-it-X Fest 2016 is happening. 3 days of music, camping, film screenings, readings, dancing, karaoke and just generally having the time of your life with awesome people.

It will happen at Stable Studios, in Spencer Indiana (near Bloomington) on July 22-24th.

Tickets are $50, this includes your camping for the weekend. Parking will be an additional charge on arrival of $5 a vechile (please car pool, it's nicer for us and the planet plus there's not much room for parking).

The money from your ticket will go to cover the costs of the event, including paying all the bands traveling from out of town (all bands paid equally). After that, all profits made will go to Midwest Pages To Prisoners and The Void (a not for profit, volunteer run, all ages, collective space in Bloomington). There have been a total of six PIX FESTIVALS over the years since 2004 and we have raised $84,000 for charity.

I'm bummed that the last attempt to Kickstart this didn't work out, because I was really looking forward to the monthly letters!

Either way, backed.

+ Finished my semester today!  One to go!
+ I'm very good at winning things, and I won tickets for The Offspring tonight.
- Didn't find out until almost 11 PM, well after the show has finished.  Don't care so much about the band, just wanted to go to a big show to get out of the house.
+ Got a great setup done on my guitar for cheap.
+ Met with someone about finally recording my ever-elusive solo record in the next couple months.

Have you been on antidepressants before?  The ones I'm on haven't made me gain any weight, and I don't feel dazed at all.  I'll actually feel more focused, active, and motivated.  Ask your psychiatrist about options next time you go in; not all antidepressants do the same things.

I put off going to see someone about my mental health for a really long time.  Doing something about it has been one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

I got distracted during the second season, and stopped watching.  Now that the third is out, I'd like to catch up, but I feel like it's one of those shows that I'd need to rewatch the entire series.  If I just picked up from where I left off, at this point, I'd be completely lost.

That's what happened to me with season two of Orange is the New Black.  Think I'm gonna try to pick it up once I finish Friday Night Lights (5 episodes left!).

- I keep almost making an appointment with a therapist and then I convince myself that things won't be so awful when x, y, and z happen when in reality I've been in this slump for a while.

I had that same thought process for years.  Finally started talking with a counselor a few weeks ago, and it's been going really well.  I know it's weird and scary to go into that stuff, but if you've been seriously considering going, you might as well at least try it.  Even if things will be better when x, y, and z happen, what about the interim?

Just some thoughts.  I think you've got my number, feel free to text or call if you wanna chat about that stuff.

Also Aaron, call or text whenever.  See ya on the 26th!

I've basically given up on my own music, even thought it's so important to me, I've just gotten so tired of that feeling of rejection. I've tried more to focus on other people's music and trying to help friends. I used to always think that I was so special and that my music deserved to be heard over others. I think I'm finding out otherwise.

Have you ever considered that this might be part of you growing as an artist?  I feel like it's good to be self-critical to an extent.  My friend Adam said it this way, "If you're not grappling with self-doubt half the time, you've probably lost perspective. The confident ones give us the worst and most lifeless bullshit."

I've definitely gone through phases where I've thought my music was garbage.  In fact, I feel that way more often than not, but I still think it's good to share it, because it's honest and maybe someone can relate and feel a little less alone because of it.  I've taken breaks from music.  I didn't even look at, let alone touch my guitar for weeks at a time.  I was really frustrated at myself for feeling this way, but eventually the motivation just started coming back.  I had to re-prioritize / re-evaluate some things in my life before that happened, but I'm currently feeling a lot better at my music and art as a whole, even though I definitely still know that I have a lot of room for improvements.

Cool soda company out of Durham, NC.  "Wolf" is the name of their sarsaparilla.  Delicious!

Finally made a big step and had a consultation with a therapist the other day.  Seems like I'm gonna be trying that anti-depressants game, which is pretty scary to me, but I'm trying to go into it optimistically.  Fingers crossed.
