General / Re: Need ideas for one year anniversary gift

It's fine to buy her something, so long as it's thoughtful.  Sit down and really think about the things she loves and what brings her joy in this world and buy something related.  It doesn't have to be big or expensive, it just has to let her know that you're paying attention.  Or if you guys have any weird little traditions, get her something related to that.

For instance, my partner is super nerdy about airplanes, specifically the commercial air industry and old Soviet airlines/military planes.  So for our first anniversary, I got him a vintage pilot's carry-on Pan Am bag.  I got it on ebay from a retired pilot for under 25 bucks and he loved it.

Tom Waits.  Tom Waits is 100% the exact kind of thing I should love, but his voice is just so Cookie Monster to me.

I'd like to get a new job, eat more salads, and get the ball really rolling on this podcast/possible live show a friend and I have been working on developing.

Man, I love Tahitian Treat!  The Save-a-lot in my hometown used to have a knock off version of it called Waikiki Punch that managed to somehow be even more delicious for only 29 cents per two liter.  My friends and I would always take it to quiz bowl meets in high school.

Josie and the pussycats

This is one of my top 3 favorite movies and almost all of my friends, except for Rob, love it.

General / Re: Darren Wilson not indicted

Yeah.  It's sickening and the implications of this are super scary and it just sets precedence for other shitty racist cops to follow suit.  Wilson is eligible for having federal charges brought against him but I don't have a lot of hope that it will happen.

I don't understand how there isn't a bigger call for Bob McCulloch to be disbarred.

If it were not for the internet, I would have approximately 1 friend.

microwaving fish.

There was a guy in my office who would cook salmon from raw in our office microwave.  Not in the lunchroom microwave, where it would have been slightly less inappropriate, but in our tiny, stuffy office where none of the windows open.  He got fired for unrelated reasons a couple weeks ago and, while the circumstances of his firing really sucked, I'm so glad I don't have to deal with his rude fish fumes anymore.

Here is a family picture from 1993.  My parents' hair didn't realize that the 80's were over until at least 1996.

Here are a bunch ofpictures of tiny me with animals.

I used to be painfully embarrassed having Happy Birthday sung to me.  I would hide under tables in restaurants if it happened to other people, because I was so embarrassed for them.

Here is my grandma's senior picture from high school.

Some Subways have the Veggie Max, which has the same Morningstar Farms patty as BK but in a long rectangle.

Chipotle is easily veggie.  Wendy's has a broccoli and cheese baked potato and side salads.  Chili's has a pretty good black bean burger.  I remember Ruby Tuesday's having a pretty good veggie burger and nice vegetable side options.

I don't know if they even have it anymore, but sometimes I'd get the mushroom swiss burger, sans burger patty at places like Arby's or Hardees.

I love Breckinridge's Vanilla Porter!

I also still don't like IPAs.  I keep tasting new ones and they all still taste like carbonated potpourri oil to me.

I've had the lavender DRY and really liked it but I also adore anything that smells or tastes like lavender.  I used one in a whiskey lemonade cocktail once.  A+ would recommend.

General / Re: what do you want out of life?
August 11, 2014, 06:49:04 PM
I want to get a new job where I can afford to not run a month behind on any of my bills and actually pay some of my student loans and maybe even start a savings account that I don't have to empty out monthly.  And I want that job to be in a less toxic and miserable environment than my current one.
I want to learn how to keep an organized home.
I want to do nice things for all of the people I love.
I want to marry my boyfriend and make great meals and do cool stuff together for the rest of our lives.

I think those are the basics of it for now.

When I was 13 I played rec. league baseball (all-star centerfielder, hot dang!), started getting into punk (Fat Wreck, Epitaph stuff), and read a lot of books.  That's pretty much it.

This reminds me that I also played softball.  I also think that 13 might have been when I went through my archery phase.

I lived out in the middle of nowhere, listened to blink-182, and sulked a lot.  Sometimes I would take books out into the woods and read.
