i know it's super unpunk to love the world cup just like the olympics but i can't help it!
anyone else getting in on this?
not me. never managed to get into football. that's only gotten worse as i've gotten older and had a bit more spare cash around - it gets real difficult to get a seat and a drink in a pub without a couple dozen people shouting at a TV set.
I really, really want to be into it but just can't. i love basketball but just ca't get into watching it, and baseball too but baseball is more of a social thing where you hang and talk with people when you watch it (which is why i never undersdtand watching baseball alone) i don't know, but i have a special present for you Lindsey, from John Oliver, a rant about FIFA! I had no idea about all this stuff.
i love john oliver, his show is the like the pbs six oclock news of the daily show, ie where the pbs news spends 10-15 min on a story that regular news spends 2 min on and such. oliver goes on 12 min rants about stuff and its freakin wonderful. i love his dichotomy about knowing all this stuff but still wanting to see and be apart of it.

I'm a really generic punk and hate sports. I have a little space in my heart for baseball because I used to go to games with my family when I was really little but I couldn't watch it or any other sport alone or in a group. Being forced to "at least try" to play them all as a kid only made it worse. Since I was a baby I just wanted to skate haha
All I really know is that pikachu is Japans mascot which I think is cool

all of the insane injustice i've heard about that has gone on in Brazil makes it really unappealing, even if I do actually like some sports.
sorry yeah by unpunk i mean unethical. i haven't even had time to watch a game.
i really love soccer and have followed some european teams for a long time, and i know that every WC and Olympics etc is a fucking social disaster, but this one really just did my interest in. I dunno. I even put aside my anarcho bullshit and pick a couple states to cheer for usually but the whole thing just tastes sour to me now. and if we're gonna talk about state level, there has not been nearly enough colonial tension yet this year, just chile/spain today. someone said netherlands and spain, but that is not exactly the kind that i care about. like, i love soccer and actually think that, while im bored to tears by most sports, im not critical of being into it - there's usually some lovely provincial pride involved that can be really nice, and it's nice to see that go to something fun instead of something aggressively political (while still leaving room for political thought, like a lot of ultras groups). it's just manifesting in some shitty ways when this level of play has these horrific implications, and you have to support FIFA to be involved even as an observer. wow soccer feelz.

I find it interesting how countries control if or when the players can have sex during the world cup because they think that they will play either better or worse depending on if their getting some or not

I mean, a lot of coaches from all different sports try to put policies in place like that. I doubt many countries are making it some sort of law.
and i doubt any players give a shit about/follow coach policies like that.
I doubt that the players actually follow it but the fact that the coaches care enough that they try to control the players sex lives just seems weird and highly unnecessary
