Snowpiercer.
Seriously, fuck this movie.
Well I liked it
I don't even know where to start.
Oh wait, yes I do. It's A Wonderful Life.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. So many people recommended it to me and I got kind of offended that they would recommend such a shit movie with shit themes to me.
Eternal sunshine...
Hate that frickin movie. HATE it.
Ironman
There are a lot of comedies that involve people being humiliated or severely embarrassed that rub me the wrong way. I can't name any right off hand but I'm sure one will come to me. Sometimes that sort of thing bothers me and sometimes it doesn't.
I'm not a big fan of There's Something About Mary or Meet the Parents.
Action movies piss me off quite often. I didn't like Iron Man or the sequel. I do like the majority of the Die Hard movies, though and they're pretty formulaic action movies.
99% of comic book movies are complete garbage. Not an exaggerated percentage on my part.

ME TOO.
I still like Eternal Sunshine but it hasn't aged well and reminds me of a terrible relationship I was in freshman year of college. Synecdoche New York, Adaptaion, and Being John Malkovich are all better.

I haven't seen too many comic/superhero movies, but just about all the ones I have seen were terrible.
Tarantino movies, especially Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.
Star Wars
Star Trek
Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter
Blade Runner
August: Osange County was a massive shitty turd that seemed to receive a bunch of praise from some people.
Every movie with Paul Rudd in it.

I did not like Anchorman the first time I saw it. The same with the Big Lebowski. I saw both several times after that and now love them both dearly.
I love Tarentino movies but could see how others might be put off by them.
I also love Paul Rudd and don't see how anyone could hate him.

Agree with all of these except the original 3 Star Wars movies. I hate the prequels.

If you don't like Jar Jar Binks and podracing, you aren't a real Star Wars fan.
Dont forget the midichlorians!
when it first came out I saw a few minutes of lord of the rings and thought it was boring as fuck and said fuck this shit and didn't watch it again for like 10 years and then about a year or two ago my girlfriend, who's a huge fan, got me into the movie and I instantly became a lord of the rings nerd. I love all the movies, got into the hobbit ones as well, am really excited for the final hobbit coming out Tuesday, got into the books including the obscure history of all the ages, pretty much anything tolkienesque. The Simirilian, all the family trees, everything. The man was a genius. He was a professor and studied pre-history and forgotten and lost languages. so he imagined what could of been and created languages, history, and his attention to detail was so meticulous it trembles on the border between madness and genius.
and all tarantino movies are awesome. well I think so at least. I guess not everyone is a fan of gratuitous violence, exploitative sex, numerous droppings of the "n" bomb and such but I dunno, I think the mans a genius.
but for me.. boondock saints. blah. that movie is nothing special at all and everyone used to rave about it

I have not seen it, but have been meaning to once it is convenient for me (On Demand or Netflix) because I've heard it is enjoyable even from some friends who don't normally like his movies. I don't hate the movies. But I tend to go see them in theaters because my friends love the guy and I always leave kind of annoyed.

You should definitely watch it. After looking at his filmography on Wikipedia, I have come to the conclusion that I really don't like his movies either but Grand Budapest Hotel was really good.
I don't care to stick up for any of his other movies but Rushmore is a stone cold classic.
I believe I tried to watch Life Aquatic 3 or 4 times and fell asleep every time. I would have to go back and watch Rushmore but I thought it was overrated when it came out. I'll have to watch it next time I get the chance. I've seen the Royal Tanenbaums a few times. I'd give it 2.5 stars out of five.
The Fantastic Mr. Fox is his best movie. I mean....listen, we can fight, or you can all just admit it.
Rushmore
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Moonrise Kingdom (first half)
The Royal Tenenbaums
Hotel Chevalier
Grand Budapest Hotel
Moonrise Kingdrom (second half)
The Life Aquatic
Bottle Rocket
The Darjeeling Limited

If you're over the age of 18 then I would say it is the consensus. It seems to be a movie that people grow out of when they get older and less angsty.

Had a few girls I dated in high school who loved this movie. I kind of liked it but they picked the most cringe-worthy quotes as their favorite like
"Donnie: Why are you wearing that stupid bunny suit?
Frank: Why are you wearing that stupid man suit? "
I felt like I was dating a hot topic commercial.
Donnie Darko is a cult film for idiots
Boondock Saints fits that same category.
I hate all those people who got a trigger finger tattoo immediately after seeing that movie.
I felt so out of place with friends and acquaintances in high school and college because I though Boondocks Saints was terrible. My former roommate talked to me like I had three heads when I told her I didn't like it. She had posters and shit. I never understood it. What I DO like is the documentary about the making of the movie where the asshole director goes from top of the world and gets smacked down to earth hard. It was refreshing to see an asshole fail mostly for being an asshole.
clerks, The Godfather (all of them), The new Godzilla movie, anything with Mathew McConnaughey.

This seems you have a grudge against an actor. I'm not invalidating your view that anything he is in is going to be complete garbage to you and you're going to hate it regardless of merit but that seems like a shallow and childish view. There are plenty of movies that I wouldn't be caught dead watching with McCounaughey but I'd be damned if I didn't LOVE Killer Joe and Mud. Not to mention his role in True Detective. It seems like you're taking popular things to hate or you being a contrarian for the sake of being a contratian. I don't know you personally and you could be a really chill person and I don't mean this to come off as an attack. I'm just reacting to what I see.

It blows my mind that the same person who wrote Killer Joe(Tracy Letts) also wrote August: Osage County. I didn't hate August: Osage County as much as some people, I actually kind of liked it. That chicken leg scene in Killer Joe is so motherfuck perfect.

The point of this thread wasn't to provide blanket statements. Plenty of good actors have bad movies and plenty of bad actors are in good movies. I realize that 'good' and 'bad' are subjective terms but I find it incredibly unlikely that you would hate everything that McConaughey is in just based on the sole fact that he is in it. I will give the conceit that up until recently(like last 5 years) McConaughey has starred in nothing but complete shit. He has become legit, though. Let's hope he keeps it interesting.
I realize it looks like I'm just sucking Mc's dick but I'm just disagreeing with your blanket statement. I definitely don't have an issue with you.
I'm still fairly certain I did what I was suppose to in this thread and that fact you are getting so worked up about it, makes me think this answer was better than most. But to further explain, I don't like his personality, his acting style, hell even his voice, so it makes it hard to like any movie he has a huge role in. I'll admit I enjoyed movies like Tropic Thunder when I saw them, but that's only because he played a very small part.

Castaway
Agreed. There are several movies with which I view negatively based on negative events I associate with them. They played Castaway like 3 times during the 5 days I spent in the hospital in 2002. I hated it when I saw it (I obviously was not feeling great at the time) and it just reminds me of those 5 days of hell when I see it on. Does anyone else hate movies due to associating them with bad life events?
Oh and Matthew McConaughey is awesome. I don't care about all of the dog shit romantic comedies that he's been in that I've never seen. Dallas Buyers Club was awesome and so was True Detective. His role in Tropic Thunder mentioned about was good, as well. I can't think of other McConaughy movies right now but I even liked him in Dazed and Confused. I used to like that movie when I was in high school but now hate. Do people like Dazed and Confused on the board? If not, did you ever?
Wait, did you just say you hate Dazed? What the
Yeah, dazed and confused is a pretty damn good movie, not anywhere close to favorite, but how could you hate it?
People acting surprised that other people are mentioning movies they like in a thread titled "Name a movie you hate that everyone else seems to love"
It's Dazed and Confused.
I don't know. It could just because I've seen it so many times, often against my wishes. I think I just got burnt out on it. I could give it another try. I find some of the characters pretty annoying including some that I don't believe are supposed to be annoying. I feel like the main freshman in the movie was miscast.
I guess hate would be the wrong word. I just kind of feel "meh" about it.
I listed that movie the last time this thread came around and also received tons of flack from Brett about it, so I decided to opt out this time.
squid and the whale. it was aiiiiiight, but that's bout it.
hmm.. that silence of sleep shit? is that the name even? sucked sweaty and strangely beauty mark and scarred balls.
I was in a huge horror comedy phase and everyone kept saying Reanimator, Reanimator, Reanimator, RE-FUCKING-ANIM-FUCK-ATOR and i saw it and it wasn't anything special. I'd take Street Trash, Basketcase, Brain Damage, Return of the Living Dead or the classic Dead Alive over that anyday. yeah, it wasn't really worth shit.
oh and Itchi the Killer. I wasn't worth it. I don't give a flying fuck about the violence. I LOVE cinematic carnage but it just wasn't that good of a movie. maybe if i had never heard of it and was stoned and at home flipping through channels and found it with a clear perpsective totally devoid of bias i would of enjoyed it more, but no dice. same with, )as i previously said early on and no one noticed and brought it up afterwards and stole my thunder!!! Boondocks saints. Not that good of a movie but any means. ) such was the case. Old Boy (the original, not the horrendous Spike Lee Joint.
Also I went through a phase, i dunno, around 19-21sh where i wanted to watch the most disturbing, depraved movies imaginable. I did all the requiste homework (good searches, the Amazon/CDnow lists that were big around then) and i thought i had the jist of em all. i went through the gamit, Cannibal Holocaust, Wizard of Gore, henry portrait of a serial killer, Susperia, Salo, irreversible, I Spit on Your Grave, Gummo (again, most disturbing and arthouse but i dunno, it was on the lists and i was impressionable), Make them die Slowly, Un Chein Indeleau. Didn't get around to Mordum, Blood Feast and Begotten. And while I don't know if they considered them good movies people buy them and watch them a lot so i guess the consesus amongst society is that they are good and i found just a handfull to me a memorable, and a VERY select few to my favs of all time.
