Title: Plan-It-X Beer and General Alcohol Thread
Post by: Anna Karina on June 10, 2014, 06:49:29 PM
I'll go ahead and throw liquor into the thread this time around, because why not?

Reposting what is perhaps the best beer I've ever tried:

Also, went to Beachwood this weekend to celebrate my birthday a few days early.  Drank awesome beers from them as well as glasses of The Bruery Sucre and Alpine Hoppy Birthday, which Alpine is my favorite brewery and that might be my new favorite beer from them (until I drink some Nelson again).

Brought back growlers of Beachwood Alpha Supreme and Beachwood Kilgore along with two bottles of System of a Stout.

Also, been drinking Almanac sours a whole lot.

Also, I have a habit of purposely making my photos of beer look mostly out of focus. I don't know why I do it, but goddammit am I gonna continue.

Really loving this beer. I may be biased due to Nelson Sauvin hops being my favorite hop profile, but ridiculously drinkable with really great pineapple/mango notes.

Okay, why the fuck does the board keep cutting off the list I'm trying to post? It won't let me post the whole thing and it's pissing me the fuck off. Goddammit, Jar.

Like, you're limited in how many characters you can type in the box, or it's dropping what you've typed after posting?

this is one of my favorite local beers

I also got a thing of mediocre vodka and am attempting to infuse different fruits into it. This one is raspberry ginger.

It kept cutting off after a specific paragraph, but I don't think it has to do with the characters because I edited out a paragraph and it still cut off at the same spot.

Then I cut off another chunk and it cut off the list at another spot. I gave up after like seven edits.

Is 6 rack an actual term?  I have never heard the word rack placed with any number other than 30.

I've been on an IPL kick as of late.  I'm terrified of trying any summer seasonal beers due to several bad experiences with them.

I can't recall if I've had Redemption or not. I think I have.

Russian River have been complete dicks in regards to shipping beer to Los Angeles this past year or two. They used to be so much more abundant. I wish I could ever find some Consecration these days but alas.

Just got back from a day with friends visiting the Museum of Jurassic Technology, which was an interesting experience. Finna watch Raid 2 pretty soon.

I wasn't gonna drink tonight, but work was frustrating as hell and I bought a new mason jar, so I'm not gonna just not drink out of the mason jar.

I'm of the opinion that Blind Pig is better than Pliny. Bottled on 6/20.

My friends and I drank Steel Reserve almost constantly when we were young (we even celebrated "Steel Reserve Day" on February 11th).  I visited one of these dudes about two years ago and we tried to share a forty for old times' sake and we couldn't make it past a few sips.

Brett, have you had The Bruery's Sour? I don't remember if it had a fancy name or not, but it was the first sour I ever tried and it was damn delicious.

This one has been my go-to as of late:

Drinking a black IPA from a new local place, and it's highly enjoyable.

For my friend's birthday last week we got a sampler plate of every beer the place has (it's a small place, maybe 14 craft beers on tap tops), and I at least somewhat liked almost every single one. This place is right down the street from me, but because of it's complete and total lack of "hipness"  (it is populated by 100 percent mid 30s white urban professionals, and the menu is in both papyrus and comic sans) I get to avoid running into absolutely anyone I know by going there. It's perfect.

There were hoppy beers in it, but they were like four months old, so it's a good thing they didn't go the IPA route really. Not sure what that's supposed to mean in regards to the fact that IPAs are better though.

just sayin i enjoyed the variety and that they didn't try to reinvent the wheel, there were alot of good beers in there. My faves were the hopped pils, the tropical maibock, and maillard's odyssey. was really only disappointed with the allagash collab, and just cause i wished the coriander was more prominent.

Goin to the PIZZA PUNX, CA eviction party today...hmm, what should I bring??? Gonna have some fun deciding! I'll let ya guys know what I end up choosing.

on a separate note, anybody had Unity Vibration Kombucha Beer or Mateveza? A KPA and a caffeinated IPA brewed with Yerba Mate, both are hella good, Kombucha beer comes in a few different flavours of which i have had the original KPA with juniper and the raspberry...THE RASPBERRY BULBS HAVE FINALLY BURST WITH FLUID, lol, yeah, that one was good! Good luck finding them though, only ever seen them both in one place. Unity Vibration is outta Michigan, so it must be distributed other places and Mateveza is just too god to go unnoticed!

8% AMERICAN WILD ALE!!!

OH YEAH, THE RASPBERRY BULBS GON' BURST WITH FLUID TONIGHT!!!

might even mix it with a raspberry Guayaki Yerba Mate!

My roommate drank that last of my Beckenridge Vanilla Porters and I'm super sad. Mostly because he was already way drunk off nasty Bud Light so he didn't get to truly appreciate the amazingness of that beer. What a waste.

I also still don't like IPAs.  I keep tasting new ones and they all still taste like carbonated potpourri oil to me.

Swung by my old stompin' grounds while out for a haircut. Picked up bottles of:

- The Bruery/Smog City Atomic Kangarue
- Prairie Cherry Funk
- El Segundo Two 5 Left DIPA

The Two 5 Left was bottled two days ago so I guess I should probably crack that open first.

I didn't get to go to any breweries during my brief trip to San Diego, which was pretty much the only reason I went down, because the people we were with were lame as fucking hell (and passed out by fucking 9:30pm).

Tonight Highland Park Brewery is having a Sour Beer Night for LA Craft Beer Week, so I'm getting a few people together to check it out.

The main beer I wanted to try (Lazy Susan) was already tapped before we got there, which was upsetting. The Not Normal ended up being really good though so I can't complain too much.

Beers I drank tonight:

Highland Park Not Normal (x2)
Highland Park Spaz
Highland Park Vacation w/ Brett (was disappointed in this one)
Highland Park Hello, LA IPA (x2)
Lips of Faith Le Terroir
Prairie Cherry Funk

Luckily they bottled Lazy Susan recently and will be releasing it in the next few weeks, so I should be able to try it unless it sells out ridiculously fast.

Seriously loving Highland Park Brewery. Fourth visit.

Unfortunately they didn't have their Hello LA IPA on tap tonight but they had some Not Normal.

Also drank some Beachwood Hop Vader, Tahoe Mountain Ms. Coco & The Delicate Oatsters, Almanac Dark Pumpkin Sour, and brought home

I cracked open a bottle of Hanssens Artisenal Oude Kriek tonight. Absolutely love it. Hugely tart unlike a lot of cherry sours I've had recently (I enjoyed Cherry Funk but was disappointed that it wasn't very tart) and only $11 for 750ml. Apparently a shelf beer and I hope it stays that way so I can continue finding it easily.

Can't wait. Best new LA brewery.

I assume no one will take me up on it, but I'm heading to Highland Park Brewery tomorrow if anyone else cares to meet up for some beers.

Their first bottle release: Vacation With Brett and Lazy Susan (Lazy Susan being a ridiculously good sour and Vacation With Brett is pretty good but not on par).

14 of their own beers on top:

Refresh House Beer
New Wave Citrusy Wheat
Tiny Shape Pale Ale
Neon IPA
Wake Up Session Coffee
Wake Up at Michael's (lavender)
Ham Porter
Coco Noche Coconut Stout
Griffith J Griffith Imperial Stout
Lazy Susan Peach/Nectarine Sour
Vacation with Brett
Spazz Sour
Yard Beer #1
HPB Oktoberfest Lager

I've been on a serious local kick. Slumbrew Porter Square Porter, Jack's Abbey Smoke and Dagger, and a handful of Harpoon Octoberfests I've had kicking around.

I finally got to try Brew Dog's Tactical Nuclear Penguin (32% ABV) this week, and, surprise, it wasn't the best beer in the world.

I've been really digging on this local brewery's milk stout (Wiseacre's Gotta Get Up to Get Down) recently, though. It's so smooth and creamy that I accidentally drank a growler of it one night.

I really haven't had anything to drink since Jer came to town - and then almost a year before that.
I do remember liking glenfiddich 18, would like to try the 21 some day.
Just like kids, I bet it's amazing what 3 years can do.

Wes got wasted and I was the sober one. It was weird.

Srsly love this brewery. Not necessarily the best beers I've had this year but some really great ones and the potential to be just as good as Beachwood in the next few years, and it's really nice having a local place to go to as opposed to a long hike to find a good brewery. More places should release bottles via EventBrite preorders.

Apparently their next release is a pale ale with huell Mellon hops and brett trois.

There are better LA breweries, but can't really go wrong with a beer bottled the same day you're drinking it.

Also, new Highland Park Brewery releases next weekend!

21 is good too.

At the beach yesterday, had a Hell or High Watermelon, Far From The Tree Hard Cider, Two Jack's Abbey Jabbeybrau's, and a Dark Horse Blueberry Stout.
