What the

Every single review I've heard has been that it's one of the worst movies ever made.

Also, it's Kevin Smith, which means there's no possible way it's good to begin with, so

oh hey what a shock, the critics who Smith has spent the past two years shitting all over are in turn shitting all over him.

I'm not talking about critics. I'm talking about people I know who have seen early screenings.

I mean, some of them have put it in the "so bad it's good" column, but no one has actually said it was good, and there's no goddamn way it is.

The other two films of this "trilogy" sound even worse though.

Moose Jaws! Oh boy!

In regards to Moose Jaws, Smith said, "That's just Jaws with a moose. And it's awesome. There's a scene where the moose's eat, I'm halfway through the script, there's a scene where a moose is eating like a nine year old kid right out of the lake and stuff."

Wow, so hilarious and awesome, Kevin Smith.

okay, i get it, you don't like Smith and you think comedy-horror films should really take themselves more seriously.

I like plenty of comedy horror films. Murder Party and 100 Bloody Acres are decent ones I've seen lately.

A shitty movie is a shitty movie. Kevin Smith is not a competent director.

Also, he stole the plot of Tusk from a story someone posted on the internet.

man i just realized i haven't seen a kevin smith film since jay and silent bob, which the first time i saw it in the theater stoned I hated it. The second time it was alright but i wouldn't consciously watch it again. however, clerk-mallrats-chasing amy- dogma, some ok some great satires

Hey jer, have you seen Red state? i noticed it was on netflix, and might watch it tonight. i didn't even realize it was a kevin smith film

i wrote a short story before 13th floor and matrix came out that was nearly identical to 13th floor (but mine was better). Sometimes people just have similar ideas

He saw an ad on craigslist an extrapolated an entire story from it which is a pretty big departure from the ad, and the person who wrote the ad recieved credits and is very happy with it. It's not exactly stealing.

Hey jer, have you seen Red state?

Yeah, it's pretty good but very dialog heavy like everything he does. The ending is a little weird, but it was pretty solid.

And your whole "I don't like things" putdowns thing doesn't work when I like a plethora of things (movies), including a plethora of the things you're trying to say I don't like.

Kevin Smith is not a director. Kevin Smith is a dude with a camera.

His Comic Book Men show is fine.
Title: Re: so tusk was pretty neat
Post by: jer on September 25, 2014, 03:27:30 PM
i meant specifically his work.

it's okay to not like it. it's even okay that you say you don't like it.

i don't get your inability to grasp that not everyone shares your opinion on shit and your need to try to convince everyone. just, like... don't like it and move on.
Title: Re: so tusk was pretty neat
Post by: Anna Karina on September 25, 2014, 03:29:25 PM
If he'd stop making movies like he continually says he's planning to do, I'll gladly move on. When he continually produces dumb bullshit, I will continue calling that bullshit bullshit.

And no, you just tried to say I like my horror comedies to be "more serious."
Title: Re: so tusk was pretty neat

He said that only at one point in his career and then has since publicly explained continuously why he changed his mind and that is no longer the case. but get this, you can still just not watch his movies or pay attention to him and his existence won't effect you at all and to you, it will be like he retired.

Speaking of horror comedies, the best thing Jason Mewes has been involved with is Feast.

You implied he was unfunny because he pointed out a moose kills a kid in his script... like the bare minimum that we would expect about a movie about a killer moose. So...

Making a comedy horror film doesn't automatically veil it from criticism and I'm not sure why you're pretending otherwise. "The film doesn't take itself seriously" is not a valid reason against calling a concept garbage.
Title: Re: so tusk was pretty neat
Post by: jer on September 25, 2014, 03:49:38 PM
Again, you don't have to like anything he does and I'm not saying he can't be criticized. I'm saying you're obsessive with your hate of things that you don't like, Smith or otherwise, and it's silly as hell, you're a hipster caricature.

You can not like the concept, but that I don't hate it just because you hate it doesn't mean I have "high hopes" for it -- I don't have high hopes for dick and fart jokes but I still laugh at them sometimes, because i would be an idiot to take dick and fart jokes seriously. Likewise, sometimes I enjoy a dopey movie.

YOU TAKE DUMB MOVIES TOO SERIOUSLY!

okay how about you guys both see tusk and then come back and say how you feel about it? that would probably cut through all the presumption and prejudice about the dude and his fatness and jncos and whatnot because yeah, i saw it and it was good. obviously i wasn't expecting a tour de force film that would sweep the awards worldwide but it was actually pretty fucking entertaining and last time i checked, that's why people usually see a movie.

Left a friend's house who was watching it about 15 mins in.  I was not enjoying those 15 mins.

BUT speaking of great horror-comedy, has anyone seen Tucker and Dale vs. Evil?  That and Cabin in the Woods are the best horror comedy movies I've seen in recent memory.

dunno if it's horror-comedy per se, but Contagion was pretty freaky
